Anyone else had an issue with this? I have had to cancel my debit and cc cards at least 4 times in the last 2 years. It got so bad that there is a block on any new CC being approved by the credit bureaus without calling me first. Someone has tried to open at least 20 CC's in my name in the last year. Then to add insult to injury I went into a Harbor Freight, bought an item.......and the next day I get a fraud alert from the bank asking if I just bought 300 dollars worth of womens clothes online. Well after calling the bank we not only find that transaction but my card was also used to buy a Latte at Starbucks in the same shopping center as the Harbor Freight store at about 5:30 PM as well as an order for 200 bucks worth of makeup in a store there as well. And lo and behold......it was a chick that checked me out at HF. I thought about callig HF corporate but I really don't have any proof other than circumstantial.

This shit is getting old. Everyone understands what a PIA it is to have to change your debit card. Anybody else living this nightmare?

Ughhh that is not fun i have had it happen once in Vegas and it was a minor pain in the butt to get the new card, but apparently it wasn't uncommon based on the reaction from the call center folks I spoke with.

I've had it happen once or twice where I got charges that were detected as fraud and had to be disputed, and new card issued.

I have not had anyone attempt to actually open accounts in my name fraudulently.

Each time it happened, like TBD, I was suspicious of a vendor where I used the card in question.

Sure they tried to buy some chit online with your cards, but did they really pull off the whole "bitterness" thing enough to consider it identity theft?

I use my card for everything, so I can get the points. Very careful of other information outside of that....diligent shredder of junk mail, etc.

Two Saturdays ago, I got a call from my credit union fraud line (they are really good, and I'm thankful; they call randomly a few times a year and verify charges) and asked if I had made a $77.92 purchase that morning. I had not, so they froze my shit in its tracks and cancelled the card. I looked online, and someone had purchased breakfast at IHOP #786 (wherever that is located.)

That's the only time anything like that has happened to me. My younger brother has gone through this twice in the last 15 years, and it was a major hassle....sorry to hear that you've had this happen @truthbedamned

Thanks! I could not find that location...that's why my fraud line called...I have to make sure I let them know if I'm travelling...I've landed in Vegas and bought a drink with my card and gotten a call 5 minutes later because they see the charge wasn't local to where I live... actually reassuring knowing they are watching so closely.

I've never been a victim of identity theft...yet. I have had my credit card number stolen when I bought a custom frame online for framing the Cubs World Series newspapers.... and someone bought a vacation on my card. But that was easy to dispute and get a new card afterwards. Site later told me they were hacked as well. Basically, haven't used that site again, and have had no issues since.

I just check my accounts several times a week, usually check out websites thoroughly before buying from them.

Are people stealing your identity then complaining about conservative treatment on liberal message boards?

But yeah, I've had my card number stolen but the bank caught it quick. Nothing actually went through and I eventually got a receipt with an order number from something that someone tried to purchase with their name and address on it (LMAO how stupid) so I sent that to the proper authorities. Never full blown identity theft.

Capital One monitors if any of your information is mentioned on the dark web. My email has popped up a few times because of sites getting hacked. Once my name and address also popped up (thanks stockx) so I monitored my credit report for a while after. I also just keep tabs on my report in general.
