I say nah, but there is HEATED debate on this issue this offseason and I think it's time we have an official offseason CCS community consensus on this issue.

Calling a grown man, whether he is a peer or not, "kid" is indeed inappropriate. Especially if said person has succeeded beyond what you have done. It is a dismissive way to keep other's accomplishments down, and in some cases it blows the dog whistle of supremacy.

@dabears70 should be ashamed for saying what he did.

No. Just as cringy as saying “we” when referring to a team you don’t play for.

I don't think it's a big deal, but I've always thought it was strange to call a man "kid" when they're over 18. Even 16 year olds are "young men."
Over the years, I've heard people refer to 25 year old football players as "kid" because "I'm older than him."

Of course it's subjective, but it wouldn't be common courtesy to call a grown man "kid," just like it's not polite to call elders "old man." (If it's not your dad, then don't say that...it's not endearing, it's rude.) I've seen strangers call elders "old man."

Hummm, so if the player is younger than any of my children, is it an insult to call him kid?

Of course I think context is important, for example if I was to say "that kid is playing out of his mind", is really an insult, or is it just my perception that he is young? On the other hand if I said "that kid is just trolling", perhaps that example would indicate that I think his behavior is "child like".

Can not think of a single example of when "old-man" does not have an insulting tone to it....but that might be because I view myself as "aging"

Was it the Bulls or White Sox where the marketing phrase was " the kids can play". Was that perceived as an insult? No, lets not take evrything out of context.

The unwritten rules of CCS:

1. It's not okay for a grown man to wear a player's jersey.
2. It's okay to refer to the Bears as "we," even though we don't play for the team.
3. It's not okay to call a player "kid."
4. Jason LaCanfora is never to be taken serious.
