When are they going to let their real 2nd baseman get out of prison?

I really wish they’d get Happ out of the lead off spot

Why? Sadly, they have no one better at it. Haven't for quite awhile. At least he's a switch hitter who will take a walk here and there. They only score on HR's anyway, so what difference does it make....it's not like he gets on and they move him around to score.

Anemic.

Cubs have scored 51 runs. Mets 37.
And yet at 7-4 they have the 2nd best winning percentage in NL.
Solid pitching with steady run production to win close games is a much better formula than scoring 14 one game and then virtually nada for the next week.

because if you’re constructing a lineup, you tend to not want a guy that hits around .240 and K’s at a 30% rate in the lead off spot. I’d rather they put sogard/bote/heyward in that spot than Happ. But yes, they don’t have a true lead off hitter, that’s obvious

Any P that throws a strike to Baez is one dumb SOB. There simply is no need.

And right on cue, heyward and sogard provide some offense

I honestly wanna see Sogard starting. He's one of the best players at professional ABs on the cubs. Guy fouls off pitches well. Also would love to see the cubs get more speed. In an era where Ks are king being able to move yourself around with speed is big

Throwing a pitcher out of the game that was already taken out seems pointless.

Personel preference, I guess. I like my leadoff guy to get on base. Both Bote and Heyward have OBP of about .250.....Happ isn't great either at .328 but better. Plus he leads the team in walks....he's not a world beater but at the moment, he's the best they got at leadoff.

Just the fact that anyone would think a career journeyman of Sogard's ilk is what this lineup needs....becomes yet another reason that trying to hang for a whole Cub game is such a chore.
