Looks like the cubs signed him in 2016 at age 25.... They signed him off the indy ball team the Windy City Thunderbolts. Looks like one of those reliever types you sometimes find out of no where. I wouldn't expect him to be long for the majors but as a depth 4A type he's probably fine

That was nice seeing Adbert getting a win. He had 2 hard games going into this game and finally got a match up that he could win.

The crazy bit on him.

37 IP
26 hits
7 walks
39 SO.

That 4.62 ERA is not the tale with him. It is more so his .89 WHIP and .195 BAA. What has hurt him is the HR. given up 8 and that has his ERA inflated.

But we are honestly talking about a kid that could end up as the ace this year. Those numbers support it. I just see it as time with him vs ability.

The next guy that I would like seen stretched out is Steel. He holds a 1.15 WHIP and a .171 BAA. Williams is on the ropes right now and another punch out he gone. It is easier to get Keegan starting and Steel piggy backing but I would start Steel and use Keegan as the piggy back. Cubs need a lefty in the rotation.

Rizzo out with back injury again. Expect Bryant at 1B for a while now.

Scherzer?

Jake has been good but he would have to be 2015 again to battle that guy.

I'm happy with 2.

I'm expecting Rizzo shelved. So one bat down.

So I would expect

Contreras C
Bryant 1B
Pederson LF
Baez SS
Happ CF
Duffy 3B
Heyward RF
Hoerner 2B

I'm pretty sure Nico will play 2B every day now. That play yesterday made David a believer. .353/.433/.471 is not hurting his case.

Duffy still has a .284/.379/.364 line

Sogard .258/.292/.348
Bote .193/.262/.316

I see both as bench players still.

Well we might as well get used to it. Rizzo has a long history of back issues and Jed is not going to pay him 26M to shelve for a month per year.. Yet again why to invest into Bryant. When healthy he is a top 10 hitter. Rizzo is barley a top 10 1B right now.

Sadly losing him really opens up opportunity to see how Bryant fields 1B over extended innings.

CHICAGO -- As Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo was weighing whether to try to play through a back issue that flared on Tuesday night, Kris Bryant did what he could to ease his teammate’s mind.

"I said, 'Hey, get out of this game,'" Bryant said after the Cubs' 6-3 win over the Nationals. "'Please don't do anything stupid. We need you for the long haul.'"

In a concerning moment for the Cubs, Rizzo left Tuesday’s victory before the fifth with what the team described as lower back tightness.

Following the game, manager David Ross said the first baseman was "day to day," noting that Rizzo tweaked his back while running out of the box after a groundout in the third inning.

So it seems that Rizzo will just sit on the bench for a few games getting therapy while Bryant holds down 1B. Which is fine. I still believe that this is a opertunity for Jed to evaluate Bryant at 1B and make that hard decision.

There is some opertunity happening at SS this off-season.

Shortstops

Javier Baez (29)
Carlos Correa (27)
Brandon Crawford (35)
Freddy Galvis (32)
Greg Garcia (32)
Leury Garcia (31)
Jose Iglesias (32)
Miguel Rojas (33) — $5.5MM club option vests with 500 PAs in 2021 ($500K buyout)
Corey Seager (28)
Marcus Semien (31)
Andrelton Simmons (32)
Trevor Story (29)
Chris Taylor (31)
Jonathan Villar (31)

Marcus Semien might end up as the best bargain. Baez the most over paid. Story should be worth it but are you making that investment?

Nico really is showing that he has a GG quality D at 2B right now. So moving him to SS might not be the best move. Locking him up as a 2B is.

So I do believe that this will all work out in the end. But don't be shocked that Bryant gets the money from Tom and the savings will come from Rizzo and Baez.

I'm sorry 1B has a history of power hitters manning it. The age of career 1B is the minority. A hitter has to have a 40HR potential bat to really justify it.

Segar went on the DL. Lux will be the F/T SS Muncy moved to 2B and Pujos to 1B. So that is why they signed him.

Roberts also said that they have always viewed Lux as a 'narural' SS.

IE Seager He Gone

So I would expect Seager as the #2 SS on the list. Baez and Correa in a battle for 3rd.
