How much longer can they keep sending the 4 1/3 man Cease out there on the mound? He simply throws too many pitches and seemingly is always in a 3-2 count. IMO it's time to start grooming Kopech for the 4 spot. On a positive note, Mercedes continues to be a revelation, this kid just refuses to give up his spot in the lineup.

They are already grooming Kopech, but with the surgery and layoff time they need to take all year to do it. They need to manage his innings, probably 60-70 innings through August or so, and hopefully he's ready to throw 90-100 pitches by September.

Trade Cease to Miami or Colorado, or hybrid the plan those clubs developed to platoon young pitchers.

We have 3 horses, and could deploy four 75 pitch guys to fill in gaps in chunks. It helps if 1 or 2 of those guys are flexible and can go on 4 or 5 or 6 days rest on a moments notice.

That takes maturity, to rehab post work for three days, and be ok with rest and know it doesn't hurt you to rest for 3 days.

If those guys can pitch you shouldn't worry about deploying them in innings 4-8.

MLB lineups eat alot of pitches, and Rodon, Cease, Kopech are all already great candidates for this style due to age and injury, who as a bonus know how to rehab like normal the first 3 days after a start.

I think Cease is a pitcher you can move at the deadline even if you're a contender. The rotation of Gio, Keuchel, Lance, Kopech and Rodon is fine.

Kopech needs to be stretched out, they aren't going to throw him 140 innings. Good to have six legit starters in 2021.

Kopech is awesome though. So much late movement.

Cease is so inefficient it's crazy. Kopech is only going to pitch so many innings this season so the hope is that Cease figures it out before he burns out the pen.

Or does he have good stuff to offer the pen?

He might have an uptick in velocity if he is only pitching 1 or 2 innings every couple days.
