Yes he sounds weird af but I scoured the internet with a 2 min Google search and there's nothing about him being deaf at all. I would think that would come up especially when they did a whole bio type article in the Chicago tribune.
Maybe he just thinks this made up voice sounds good to his listeners when he put his headphones on?
