I think 3-4 years is the appropriate range, unless it’s very clear they’re terrible and have no upside.This is a good point. I'd like to see rookie numbers for QBs from the last 5 years. Still, I'm of the opinion you can't give up on any rookie after just one season.
Fields clearly has a bunch of upside. He also clearly has a lot of room to improve, some of which is indeed related to the team and coaching around him.
Failing as a rookie QB is ok, as long as there is growth and potential. Years 2 and 3 is when expectations are going to rise and deservedly so.
I still don’t get how anyone could just “give up” on the type of talent he has.
He may very well fail, we’re used it as bears fans, but based on the fact he’s a rookie, has big potential, is a gamer, smart, etc. deserves some patience.
