The NBA's buyout market will soon have a surprise addition: New York Knicks' Corey Brewer.

The Knicks and Brewer are closing in on a buyout agreement that will make the former Minnesota swingman a free agent, sources close to the situation told ESPN.com.

Because Brewer will be officially released before March 1, he's eligible to play in the playoffs with another team.

Sources say Boston, San Antonio, Oklahoma City and Dallas are among the teams with the most interest in Brewer, who joined the Knicks only last week as part of the Carmelo Anthony deal.

The Celtics had previously tried to acquire Brewer from Minnesota before the Anthony trade went through.

Thoughts? He'd be a way better option than Butler

He can't play too many minutes at the 2 at full speed, but he's under-rated as a 3. Ex-Florida teamate for Jo, young, explosive moves to the basket, great at playing lanes and can give any perimeter player headaches.

I like Corey Brewer. But Butler and Brewer have 2 different game styles. Butler is a streak shooter/transition player and rarely plays defense, while Corey is basically the younger poor mans version of Andre Iguodala.

Either or, both will have their pros and cons. Butler is likely to accept any role with a smile. Brewer.... hes immature still, maybe he'll plug and play, maybe he wont. One thing is for sure, I would take Corey Brewer over Bogans, for Bogan's minutes just based on his play/ability/investment.

Corey Brewer has average 3 point shooting ability for his age. SGs/Swings rarely have a consistent long range shot in their first 5 seasons. Unless of course, they are specialists and don't have much of an all-around game. Brewer does have an all-around game, more defensive but he's still an athletic freak so he'll get there if he works hard. Butler, yeah, butler gets hot, he'll make the shots.
He definitely would make a lot of the 3s that Bogan's misses(although Bogans hasnt been bad for three in the last 20-30 games.)

Brewer is most certainly the better player but he doesn't really offer us anything we don't currently have where as Butler could (if he returns to his career averages) be a scoring threat from distance. The Bulls made it seem as though the latter is of greater interest to them.

We have plenty of defensive players who aren't as horrific as Corey Brewer on offense so I see no real use for him on the Bulls.

I think corey brewer gives us a lot of what ronnie brewer gives us, but he's not as good at it.
