Well I think his issue is his arms are short plus he lacks great athleticism for LT. He wins off of aggression and technique but at the NFL level you can find a lot of defenders who have aggression, technique and athleticism.

I expect Jenkins to be the starter at LT. However, I can’t see this team going into camp without signing a veteran at the position, whether that’s Fisher, Okung, Schwartz, or someone else.

Leno was reliable and a little below average due to his soft play style. Folks remember him getting pancaked by a safety. Or the TTNL films of him walrus flopping. I am guessing it's a cap casualty scenario where they can play the rookie. Because he will get to learn on the job with Dalton suffering the consequences lol.

I have already questioned Jenkins foot work for RT, I am very concerned about his foot work at LT

he was below average, but I wouldn't call him reliable...a desperate team will sign him or he'll be a backup

That's the key part. Let Dalton take the hits until they get the line right and get them some experience to get comfortable.

Keep in mind. Fisher really struggled his first few years in KC. Expect the kid to have a "learning" curve.

that’s a bad move. who are you sliding to left? let Jenkins stay on the right side and Barrom needs to develop.
This shit fucking blows my mind.

Bears fans are so used to mediocrity that when an average player get cuts, it’s a “bad move”.

Who is going to take his place? There are LTs available right now u can sign for 1/3 the price and get as much as you would from Leno for the next season. There will be LTs that will get cut in the coming months that will sign for 1/3 of Leno’s price. And if you used your 2nd and 3rd round picks on a tackle, he better be as good as Leno day one. Leno isn’t garbage, but he is average and his ascending production leveled off after 2018 (aka after he got paid).

If you’re going to become a top ten team in the league, you get rid of average players starting at key positions.

Let's put the notion that "short-arms on avg will mean poorer performance" to the test. And then in the second quoted material below if it matters with LT in particular.

But first let's see if Teven even has "shorter arms", and if that matters in the NFL with Tackles in general. The medium arm length of the top 16 PFF rated tackles in 2020 was 34.08. Jenkins measured 33 3/8 inches at the EXOS pro day. I'm not going to worry about less than an inch on this.

Arm length for offensive tackles

I've been curious about how arm length correlates to the success of the top performers at tackles, and how the current draft class would stack up. So I did some digging. Here are the top 16 PFF highest graded tackles last season. I'm not sure how much Onwenu actually played at tackle, but I included him anyway. All arm length measurements for the current pros are found on https://nflcombineresults.com.
PlayerArm Length (inches)
Trent Williams34.25
David Bakhtiari34
Garett Bolles34
DJ Humphries33.63
Duane Brown34.25
Andrew Whitworth35
Terron Armstead34.08
Tristan Wirfs34
Michael Onwenu34.34
Jack Conklin35
Isaiah Wynn33.38
Taylor Decker33.75
Taylor Moton34.13
Rob Havenstein33.75
Dion Dawkins35
Eric Fisher34.5
Braden Smith32.25
Average = 34.08 Median = 34.08

There was no positive correlation between arm length and performance. Now looking at if LT arm length makes a difference...

A good counter argument that you might make is that including right tackles might bias the data. The best offensive tackles are often charged with protecting the “blind side” of the quarterback. This also coincides with the position of the opposing team’s best pass rusher (again, to get at the quarterback’s blind side). If the better offensive tackles are going up against the better pass rushers, then the data sets could potentially be very different. PFF has listed the number of games played at left or right tackle, so I’ve simply sorted them depending on which position each player has played more.

These graphs convey the same information. Still, there’s no correlation between arm length and performance. Another interesting thing that you can see from these charts is the wide variation in arm lengths for right tackles vs left tackles. Looking at the left tackle chart, all but 4 of the qualified players had arms between 33 and 36 inches long. Looking at right tackles, that number jumps to 13, and is apparent on both ends of the spectrum. So not only are the guys with tiny arms stuck on the right side, but so are the “long-limbed athletes”.

Any way I break it down, there doesn’t seem to be any correlation between arm length and performance.

Saw some Bears Twitter D-Bags calling Leno soft. Not sure how you can call a 7th rounder who played in 90+ games on the offensive line soft, but Bears fans have never been known for their branes.
He is soft on the field. Lacks power and physicality.

His durability is commendable. His run blocking and getting bull rushed is not.

At this point I’d rather have Jay Leno than Charles Leno.

Not sure that you can completely separate the 2 when he has a history of penalties and speed bumping. He was better last year with 7 for 55 yds (5th OT)vs the previous with 12 for 99 yards (5th OT). Only T to make top 5 both years.

That said, I thought it a risk to release him a year early. The latest moves have me thinking that Pace and Nagy got an extra year (2022) due to the new toy. They were going to take a QB this year and we just lucked out. Could have easily been Darrisaw/Jenkins plus Trask/Mills/Monds. I didn't think Fields would be in reach and thought any trade up would be to get in front of the NE for Jones or Lance. Didn't expect Fields to be one of the guys to drop.

These guys get so scrutinized that sometimes even those in the know can't see the forest for the trees. NFL has become a big play league, and Fields is a big play player.

You can find similar misleading stats for Watson and Wilson etc.

It seemed like a theme when anytime the bears had a nice drive going or had a big play there would be a Leno penalty then a sack or something to put us in a 3rd and 30 situation
