Don't get it twisted, he's a beast. The perfect fit for this defense, IMO. I'd be happy with that pick if the Bears trade back and are able to add picks as well. Would probably have to finish top 5 and trade down to 15 or so, and pick up an extra 2nd for me to be happy about taking a LB in round 1 though. Doesn't sound like Eberflus is big on taking LB in round 1 based on his comments about Roquan.
I think the opposite here. I believe they traded away Roquan with a full intention of replacing him early on in the draft.
I thought.and hoped that they would have at least taken one LB in the last draft since there was a nice crop of off the ball LBs in the last class from all of the C19 holdovers.
The Bears need 2 standout talents at the MIKE & WILL LB positions
It's a must have for a system that will demand two primary LBs that can hold down the HOOKS of a Base Cover 3, other Cover 3 variants, as well as either being able to hold down the ROBBER in the Cover 1.
I know alot of people will argue the need for a 3 technique and their argument would be valid. However since the last time the Bears ran a similar defensive philosophy under Lovie Smith alot has changed around the draft stock of the 3 TECH position.
Most of the Defenses in this league are seeking 2, 4 & 5 TECH DEs to pair with a NT/SHADE DT. The traditional 3 TECH the the Bears need can be had at a high value at the end of round 2 and even later.
This defense has to have real standout at the MIKE/WILL LB and 3TECH positions. Or there's zero point in running it to begin with.
I would follow Ron Riveras blueprint to a TEE for this system, when he rebuilt the Panthers defense.
I strongly believe 2 of the Bears first 5 picks will get spent on LBs
