I haven't heard a peep out of the usual suspects for a while on this subject. I was wondering why that might be.

The 2014 Ravens before Trestman vs The 2015 Ravens with Trestman

2014 Ravens were 10-6
2015 Ravens were 5-11

2014 Offense was ranked 8th in the NFL
2015 Offense was ranked 25th in the NFL

2014 Offense scored 388 points and the team scored 409 points (1 Kickoff return, 1 INT return, 1 Blocked punt)
2015 Offense scored 301 points and the team scored 328 points (1 INT return, 1 Fumble return, 1 Punt return, 1 Blocked FG return) 1 Two pt. run failed

2014 Offense 554 pass attempts - 17th in the NFL
2015 Offense 676 pass attempts - 1st in the NFL

2014 Offense 3819 passing yards - 13th in the NFL
2015 Offense 4271 passing yards - 8th in the NFL

2014 Offense 27 passing TD - 12th in the NFL
2015 Offense 21 passing TD - 23rd in the NFL

2014 Offense 12 INT - 8th in the NFL
2015 Offense 21 INT - 29th in the NFL

2014 Offense 6.7 Yards Per Pass - 12th in the NFL
2015 Offense 6.1 Yards Per Pass - 22nd in the NFL

2014 Offense 448 rushing attempts - 11th in the NFL
2015 Offense 383 rushing attempts - 25th in the NFL

2014 Offense 2019 rushing yards - 8th in the NFL
2015 Offense 1478 rushing yards - 26th in the NFL

2014 Offense 4.5 yards per rush - 7th in the NFL
2015 Offense 3.9 yards per rush - 24th in the NFL

2014 Offense 16 rushing TD - 5th in the NFL
2014 Offense 8 rushing TD - 21st in the NFL

2014 Offense 1021 plays run for 5838 total yards
2015 Offense 1083 plays run for 5749 total yards

As a result of the Trestman offense failing so often. It kept the Baltimore defense on the field much longer and demoralized them so they didn't play as well. Had the offense helped them out more, they would have been much more stout like they were in 2014.

At least, that's how these forums have taught me that works the last few years. :yep:

2014 Defense allowed 302 points - 6th in the NFL (Zero points allowed by the offense / special teams)
2015 Defense allowed 401 points - 24th in the NFL (35 points were due to 4 pick 6's and a fumble return)

2014 Defense had 11 INT and forced 19 fumbles for a grand total of 30
2015 Defense had 6 INT and forced 8 fumbles for a grand total of 14

Then of course the most obvious QB whisperer problem was how poorly Trestman communicated with Flacco and the poor results that followed.

2014 Flacco / 344 comp / 554 att / 62.1% / 27 TD (4.9%) / 12 INT (2.2%) / 3986 pass yards / 7.2 YPA / 19 sacks / 91.0 rating

2015 Flacco / 266 comp / 413 att / 64.4% / 14 TD (3.4%) / 12 INT (2.9%) / 2791 pass yards / 6.8 YPA / 16 sacks / 83.1 rating

As you can see the comp% went up like it normally does in a Trestman offense but its so predictable that defenses thrive against it, in part because it calls for a ton of short, high% plays, that are easily defended.

Flacco
comments on October 22nd 2015 (The QB that won a Super Bowl after having had his OC fired during the season.) (In other words I'm not buying that he can't learn a system quickly.)

"Last year's offense was at a faster pace and it was more detailed," Flacco said. "We have a new coordinator, some new plays and a new system. Some things have changed."

When asked if the pace would quicken, Flacco said: "Definitely, once I know more how [offensive coordinator Marc Trestman] thinks and what he wants, then we'll be at a faster pace. Last year, I knew our guys and we'd just call a play and move quickly. "

"I think the biggest thing is, probably, I wish I was a little more comfortable than I probably am, but we're dealing with getting different guys in there and shuffling this guy in, this guy out," Flacco said. "We've had to deal with some things, and that's just the nature of it. I have to hone in a little bit more just to make up for some of that stuff."

Trestman comment on October 22nd 2015

"I don't think it's a problem. I think it's a way of doing business," Trestman said. "We've done some of that, certainly, during the season and some of our better drives have come at an up-tempo pace. We make decisions with that as we go along, but certainly the indications are that we've just got to move the pace just a little bit quicker, get people in and out of the huddle quicker, get to the line of scrimmage quicker, and I think we will get that done."

What is it that you see here with Trestman talking about needing to get the people in out and of the huddle quicker and needing to pick up the pace? Does that sound familiar at all?

Anyone here still wondering if Trestman was a part of the problem & got a raw deal because of the Bears QB play or maybe due to injuries? :smug2:

Oh I know, I know excuses excuses. The defense was banged up and the offense had some injuries. Meanwhile, if there is one thing I have learned about talking Bears football on the "interwebs" forums. It's that the QB is the reason things go or don't go. A good QB makes his WR better and if his O-line is bad he gets rid of the ball quickly. Which in this case wasn't a problem for Baltimore, their O-line still protected quite well for the immobile statue that is Flacco. So don't start with the excuses, the injury excuse is something every team deals with. :yep:

All I know, is that I'm happy Dr. Death has moved on. Good luck to Baltimore in year 2 with Trestman. He still owes them a good year, so maybe next year Flacco & Dr. Death will bounce back.

As for the money he makes...well the 2016 cap hit of $28,550,000 and $25,850,000 dead money are minor issues for them to resolve in the off-season. Currently making him the 2nd highest QB salary cap hit in 2016 & making him the #1 highest QB salary cap hit in 2017.

Which is probably the best thing Trestman has done for the Ravens and why John Harbaugh brought him into town. They knew he would help lower Flacco value and get him to renegotiate his insane 2016 / 2017 / 2018 salaries through a possible contract extension. While at the same time help insure the team a much better draft selection.

http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/...o-be-somewhat-of-an-issue-20160104-story.html

So in conclusion, Trestman brought the Ravens

1. A very unproductive bottom of the league offense

2. Which in turn made life much harder on the defense due to all the offensive turnovers

3. Helped lower Flacco confidence level, confuse him and drastically lower his value

4. Delivered the Ravens the #6 overall pick in the draft

5. Brought them their first losing season since 2007 when the team was 5-11

2008 11-5
2009 9-7
2010 12-4
2011 12-4
2012 10-6
2013 8-8
2014 10-6

2015 5-11

Feel free to discuss more about Dr. Death in the coming days and all off-season. Even if that means spending less time talking about Brandon Marshall.

It's going to be an exciting off-season for the Bears. While on the other hand, for Baltimores sake, I hope they can rectify all the damage that Trestman has done to their Super Bowl winning QB that is currently a $28+ million dollar cap hit in 2016.

My guess is that if things get better next year, it's because they bring someone else in behind the scenes and let them run the offense. While allowing Trestman to save face publicly but keeping him from doing further damage to the Ravens ability to win games.

Of course they could allow him to roam around a little more without a leash on. In which case Trestman will make things worse & be fired before the 2017 season arrives.

My above conspiracy theory is a good one isn't it? It's another trick I have learned on these forums from the usual suspects. Set it up way ahead of time, so that whatever outcome happens. You can still avoid giving credit if anything good happens and still handout blame if things go poorly. :yep:

I hope those of you who bothered to read all this or skimmed through it, enjoyed the read.

Take that all of you... Trestman apologists, all... Wait, there are trestman apologists?
For serious.

Just who are these "usual suspects" the OP sites in the opening paragraph?

I found it interesting that the only team to lose more games by four points or less this season than the Bears were the Ravens.

("at least we are competing")

I wouldn't call them apologist but there are several posters who were good with Trestman because Mccown did well in his system for the first time ever in his career.

Basically those who liked Trestman just want Cutler gone and were sure he would do well with another QB.

Bottom line is Trestman sucks, period

I apologize for Trestman.... He was my first choice.... after I initially made my choice of Bruce Arians but after I had initially thought Trestman could secondarily be better for Jay than he already might have been.
