Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale sold so much furniture in a week that he could afford to place another giant Super Bowl bet -- $5 million on the Cincinnati Bengals to beat the Los Angeles Rams.

McIngvale, who owns Gallery Furniture in Houston, Texas, drove across the border to Louisiana early Friday morning, pulled over at a rest stop and placed the $5 million bet on Caesars Sportsbook's mobile app at +170 odds. McIngvale is running a promotion at his store, offering to refund any purchases of $3,000 or more if the underdog Bengals win Super Bowl LVI. He's using his giant bets to mitigate risk from the giveaway.

Last week, McIngvale placed a $4.5 million money-line bet on the Bengals with Caesars Sportsbook in Louisiana.

Quite the opposite of nuts. He's hedging it and getting free marketing every time he does it.
At 35% off on the bookies house.

$3000 in furniture, free if Bengals win. He pays only $1800 to cover his
ass.

Depends which side he wants to hedge steeper but in his situation he can set this so he wins either way.

Smartest guy around.....sells enough furniture to cover his possible loss which is also likely covered by insurance

The bookies might want to hire him after this - looks like he understands the concept quite well.

When you are worth over $300 million, betting $5 million is not nuts. Like @and 69 others said, it’s a great way to advertise. It’s basically an investment for him.

Furniture is the biggest scam/ripoff but when you need it you need it. I am literally leaving American Furniture Warehouse in East Denver with a receipt for 3,800 in my wallet as I'm typing.

God bless.

So you're telling me this guy's plan has a leg to stand on?

Well I think he should be playing some spread and give himself a chance at a double win but yeah…I’m sure there is a number that pairs to his mark up.

I’d love to know how much furniture he sold. Hard to believe he’s selling 15,000,000 in furniture.

Maybe, I’d have to see the full math but a mix of spread and moneyline would make sense.

I wonder if he put himself in the middle or he stands to lose/win big one way or other.

Unless he really REALLY knows what he is doing and predicts a late run of sharp money on the Rams…and is waiting for that to finalize his balance with a potential double win hedge.

I think it could jump a point or two as we approach kickoff toward Rams personally.

I worked in a furniture store…we all know the mark -up is big on a promotion like that.

The problem with furniture is storage and efficient delivery without multi-handling.

The mark up is great but not if your caught holding warehouse storage in a bad economy.

I think there is plenty of room on a +170 that he is making out ok without fully knowing what he is doing, but Silence S, myself or some of the pick em studs could have +4.5 and mL a chance at a couple extra million here for him if Bengals lost but covered.

It only makes sense if he sells enough furniture just in case Rams win.

Reminds me of Crazy Joe's up in Rockford when I was growing up. Dude had commercials doing ski jumps in a recliner, waterskiing with babes & animals and crap. It was hilarious.

Some other furniture guy did a promo in Chicago some years back didn't he? Gave away the purchase if over $5k (tag price - actual much less and a writeoff &/or covered), IF the team won IIRC. He had insurance as all these big promos do, esp. the ones that never pay out, like a million $$ for a perfect NCAA bracket or something.

I did that last year.
