This guy is a bucket of bolts.

Bears OLB Pernell McPhee underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder after the season.
The good news is the problem was not with his troublesome knee, but it is yet another injury for a player who has struggled to stay on the field since joining the Bears in 2015. The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs expects him to be ready for training camp, but the Bears will likely take it slow. Chicago has the makings of a dominant front seven, but they need McPhee to stay healthy.

The Bears will be taking a OLB early. Personally, I'd trade up for Garrett.

I thought the Bears would be looking at OLB in the first three rounds, and it increasingly looks like they have to. Other than Floyd, likely no one on the roster right now will be there after this season.

One Knee McPhee loses another limb?!?!?

Lifting all that Lou's Deep Dish these last 20 months or so was bound to take its toll.

How long till Pace cuts ties with his first big spalsh in FA???

(RIP McPhee)

Really? With all our injuries and holes you want to trade up? That'll cost our second and what...another first? At least another second. Fuck that.

Garrett is far and away the best player in this draft. I believe elite players make everyone better, and I think Garrett can be better then Von Miller. So yeah, really.

They would have made a great combo. Floyd with the speed and McPhee with the power bull rush.

Can Solomon Thomas play OLB? That may be well out of position for him. He certainly has the speed to do so.

Plenty of other OLB prospects in the 2nd as well.

Still need to stick to BPA, or BVA (best value available). But man, would have been nice to have 2 dominant OLBs on the field this year rushing the passer.

I don't think Thomas is a "space" player. He isn't explosive off the edge. He's a down lineman who can play a number of techniques along the line. I think the Justin Smith comparisons are accurate.

Options for OLB in 2017 Draft:

- Garrett somehow falls to Bears at #3
- draft Thomas at #3 and teach him to play OLB (cover, rush from stand up stance)
- trade down from #3 and get Taco
- draft TJ Watt at #36 or trade up into late 1st to get him

He is a monster when healthy, but the chances he's ever healthy again are slim.

At least he got it fixed in the offseason instead of pulling a Fuller.
