Mayock did his homework, but his job on TV was to call out the good and bad of each player (he was good at it), totally different role than being a GM responsible for actually making the call on who to pick. I bet Gruden actually had a lot to say about who was selected.

I hope he goes back to TV...

I hope he goes back to media. I always enjoyed him around the draft.

I also wonder how many of those picks were really his? Sounds like he set up the draft board, but Gruden had 51% control, so picked whomever he wanted.

Anyway, even if the NFL or ESPN doesn't jump on him right away you gotta think some local markets would love to add him.

My favorite teams
  1. Atlanta Braves
  1. Golden State Warriors
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Vegas Golden Knights
  1. Duke Blue Devils
  2. Nebraska Cornhuskers
Even though Mayock was the GM, Gruden had majority control of the roster so I don't think it's fair to blame everything on Mayock.

Yeah, he was really great as a media draft expert and at the combine.
Which begs the question, does he remain an "expert" when he was fired due in part to the draft picks he made?

How much control did he actually have over the drafts? I have to believe it was far more Gruden than Mayock calling the shots there.

That said it was always a strange hire.
agreed.
