Mitch's Interceptions bad play calling?

The first interception had an empty backfield with 2 wide receivers on either side and Mizzell in the slot on 2nd and 15. I am not sure why they keep pushing Mizzell into the game, Cohen should have been in there.

After the snap you see 2 receivers and Mizzell run a quick curl route with multiple defenders heading towards them. Remember it is 2nd and 15, none of these receivers will get us a first down. That leaves Mitch with 2 options and he never even considers the receiver on his right thats in man to man coverage because the pocket is starting to collapse.

Mitch goes to the only guy available with a chance at getting us a first down and, I believe, in trying to avoid the linebacker crossing the field he overthrows him for a pick.

On the 2nd pick its 3rd and 10, once again the Rams have all of their corners/safeties back in a prevent. You have a single receiver wide right. The Rams will be expecting the throw to go here.

When Mitch actually throws the ball the receiver does look like he will be open on the sideline.

Unfortunately Mitch tries to lead the receiver out to the first down marker instead of throwing it along the sideline where only he can get to it. Again this is a bad play call and doesn't give Mitch any options for a successful 1st down attempt.

On the final interception, we again have an empty backfield, Cohen is in as a receiver and Burton is in the slot.

Cohen is covered, Shaheen on the left doesn't turn around and Braunecher would probably be the better option here on 2nd and 8.

Once again, Mitch is trying to throw over a linebacker and floats it.

I think he needs to stop trying to throw over linebackers and lead his receivers to places outside of their routes. Hopefully things are better against the Packers.

I will defend Mitch as much as anyone.

His interceptions were

1. Crap throw
2. Crap read
3. Crap throw

There really is no defending them they were give aways not take aways.

There is more than reasonable space to drop 1 and 3 in there.

Two picks were bad passes to the right guys... one was s bad decisions.

I’m not remotely worried about Mitch.
He looked to amped up with a couple hot throws. He’s starting to see the field and make smart choices... just some bad execution at times.
The guy that can’t get the playbook, continues to make bad choices and immediately panics (see Daniel NYG) is far more concerning.

By the end of next year QB will not even be an issue in Chicago...

If the play call was for sailing it over the receivers head, then yes, I agree that Nagy put Mitch in bad position on those throws.

That 2nd pick was strange. Mitch took the snap and immediately looked that way, there really wasn't any 'coverage disguise' by the Rams...the DB took a step back then started running to the sideline. Mitch saw all this unfold and still threw the ball that way with no pressure.

Absolutely terrible game by Mitch. The only excuses I'll give him was the injury to his right throwing shoulder, the lack of reps for a guy who says he's a rep guy, and he seems to be pressing too much in primetime games.

Having said that, I'm not concerned about him. He will light up green Bay. And I think that he hit rock bottom on this game and will shoot way up in prime time games during the playoffs.

He over threw open WRs and made one bad read.

Could you image the complete beat down that game would have been if Mitch was on target?!?

I don’t agree on the TD throw.
Enukam broke off the line in front of Mitch.
The high throw was the only option.

I do appreciate your analysis, but that was just a bad game by him... And surprisingly good defense by the Rams back-end.

The second pick is a simple read. He absolutely has to understand that coverage and not even consider throwing that ball.

The last pick is a concept that teams run against a single high safety. Burton dragged in front of the safety and it was an easy look but he sailed it.

It's 100% on Nagy IMO. He should not have called passing plays with the way Trubisky was playing.

No. This is dumb. He missed his throws and had a shit game. We won so let’s put it behind us and hope he improves so we can make a super bowl run this year.

That’s also very true. Nagy was smart to put the ball in Howard and the D’s hands.
