When fans need sports the most, MLB is nowhere to be found. Their road to recovery, if it exists, will be a lot more difficult than after 94. This is ridiculous!

They deserve to get fucked. Hopefully we get NBA/NHL at least. Television is brutal right now, absolutely nothing to watch.

I dont know why there was a report floating around that 7 major league players have tested positive already. Did they already do a voluntary Covid test like the voluntary steroid tests? You would figure this players union would be trying to get a mid summer classic game together, an exhibition all star game. That would show they really want to play.

Well, the players and the management are just hammering more nails into their own coffins.

Baseball, as an institution, has been on the decline for the last 20 years. It has been propped up with TV revenue but that just delayed the decline, it didn't arrest it.

We are in mid June and people honestly don't seem to care if baseball returns. I don't see anyone yelling to bring back America's pastime. If it doesn't happen this year I doubt anyone will really get all that upset.

60 games so they can get paid one billion dollars by Turner sports for playoffs. Of Course, fox and ESPN would have to match that to get the other league.

Owners offer 60 game proposal at full pro-rated salaries. If players reject that, then that's 100% on the players and fuck them.

Baseball didn't start?

As long as we have the real sports, I can live with that.

It's a bit tricky. Rosters are cheaper in the playoffs than they are in the regular season. That's why the players keep wanting a higher number of games, so on average the $/game is greater. Overall, there's a reason for them to want more games.

For the owners it's also tricky, because playoffs are their most profitable time. Salaries are lower and viewing demand for their team can be higher than any other time. The real question is will there even be playoffs? Global daily COVID-19 infections have been growing and are around 135-145K per day. When looking specifically at the US at the peak they had around 39K positive tests, but the 7 day rolling average at it's highest point was around 32K. From that high the rolling average has never been beneath 21K and over the past couple of days is actually trending upwards. So we never got out of the first wave and with a combination of protests, social distance lifting and the fall is around the corner (remember, this is still a seasonal thing) there's a chance the US will surpass is previous highs. If that happens there's not going to be any sports going on.

Can we please get some perspective on this? 330 million americans. 2.8 million have the virus so far, 5%, number of deaths, 118,000 (which include some questionable ones) is six tenths of one percent.

Overall, in this country, there have been 1.8 million non covid related deaths this year. Politicians locking people in their homes release all arrested looters and protestors, which might be some of the reason for the inflated recent numbers. The politicians cannot wrap their heads around the fact our medical community is not overwhelmed, supplies are here, experience gained.
This is the reason to lock down 750 baseball players?

So, at some point, people are going to have to come to grips with the fact that we cannot hide in our homes until a vaccine is ready. There isn't even a guarantee that we will get a vaccine. And if we do, it's at least 16 months out. So it's not matter of there not being sports in 2020, there would be no sports until 2022 at the earliest.

But let me ask you something. A lot of people still have jobs and have to go to work which is obviously putting them at risk. Why is it okay for those people but not athletes? I'm not being snarky but I'm curious about your perspective on that.
