I was just looking to see what FAs are still available. It's actually a really impressive list:

Here's a quick link: 2021 NFL Free Agents Tracker

A few names that jump out to me:

ILB Kwon Alexander (27)
DT Sheldon Richardson (31)
DE Justin Houston (32)
DE Ryan Kerrigan (32)
S Justin Simmons (28)
G Trai Turner (28)
DT Olivier Vernon (31)
CB Steven Nelson (28)
ILB Avery Wilson (29)
OLB KJ Wright (32)
CB DJ Hayden (31)
T Alejandro Villeneuve (33)
S Kenny Vacarro (30)
S Trey Boston (29)
S Malik Hooker (25)

That's kind of a crazy list of players that can make valuable contributions.

I would assume all of them are taking 1 year deals under market value as well

Of that group, only Malik Hooker interests me for the Bears....but he'd probably dislocate his elbow signing his contract and go straight to IR

Teams that have some cap space are going to feast on some of these players with 1 year contracts.

Sadly, the Bears will probably always be outbid.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago White Sox
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
-The Bears are light on 2022 draft capital and are going to a decent rookie class again next year to weather the cap storm.

-What do we do with some upcoming free agents, Robsinon, Nichols, and Daniels?

Nichols you let walk. Daniels may end up being cut this camp if he can't hold down his starting position, as the Bears are shifting to a nastier line. Robinson will get extended.
Daniels made huge improvements before he was injured last year. He was easily the best lineman on the team.

Daniels made huge improvements before he was injured last year. He was easily the best lineman on the team.

And if that continues to be the case, it won't be a problem. The point I am trying to make is that despite preaching competition every year, there are some guys who before training camp starts, coaches write their name in the starter position in pen, and others in pencil.

The entire line is going to be in pencil - a starting spot is promised to no one, and it won't just be lip service.

And he literally never traded up 9 spots in the first round ... until 2021.

So Pace has shown that he can change.

By the way, that is not what I hope will happen. That is what I predict will happen.
My point is, you have no reason to predict that because it's never happened and Pace has had plenty of chances to show the type of GM he is. He's a quality over quantity guy, especially early in drafts.

And he has shown that he can change, and that is the most recent thing he has done.

Sorry, but trying to create a trend with so few data points is pointless.

LT RG and RT seem open for competition atm. I think Daniels is the LG he was playing great before his injury. Centet would love them to bring in a vet to push Sam.

Extending from this, I agree completely.

But potential cuts could be Leno, post June 1st he saves 9 million? And I think the June 1st cuts are going to open the doors for his replacement.

We can also convert Quinns current year to bonus money, freeing up $11 million.
We can’t touch Quinn’s deal. We need to be able to cut him as soon as possible.

I don't think it would be that bad next year if he is bad. Plus we now have a QB on a rookie deal, now is the time to do something like this.

If we were to cut Quinn next year as is, the cap savings is 7 million. IF we spread out this years salary as bonus the savings goes down to about 4 million. Not really a deal breaker if he is bad.

If you converted 9 million to signing bonus and spread it over 3 years, when you try an cut him next year the 6 million you pushed would accelerate and he would save 1 million and have 15 dead.

Leave the Quinn contract alone. 2022 is the more important year.

How has he shown he can change? Because you like the picks this year? He still zeroes in on players he likes/wants and trades up for them when he has to. Not saying that's a bad thing. Just saying, you "predicting" trade backs in next year's draft is baseless. It's like being at the counter at McDonalds and a regular customer orders a Sausage Biscuit every morning for 6 years, then one day you decide to bag up an Egg McMuffin because today's the day he's going to order something different. You're fine to do that, to each his own, but there's a good chance you're wrong.
