I don't like it, but the players need to play again at some point. If not, playing next in October is a long time to be off.

Hawks would actually be scary to play against in this type of scenario

So the teams not in go to the draft lottery then and get guaranteed 1-7?

This is why I see, let all the teams fly out to a closed casino in Arizona, quarantine your 14 days, then be isolated there to play it out. Any call ups for injuries should be there as well. 3-4 games a day, they should clean it up in a few weeks, losers leave as a bonus unless they want to watch.

The problem is going thru a training camp and playing one series and leaving after all this time off and how many potential injuries that causes.

I maybe I missed it somewhere in the tweets, but would the top 4 teams play just one game against each other to determine their seeds? Or would it be best of whatever (normally 7 of course but maybe they'd shorten it)?

I'm assuming it's one game -- it would almost have to be, because there is a good chance those top 4 teams will see each other again in the later rounds. It's not like they can play two best of whatever series against the same team in one playoff year.

This is kind of mess, I almost feel like they should just roll with the top 16 teams when the season was paused-- yeah, it sucks for the teams that were on the cusp, but a set-up like this is just a bit ridiculous to me. It's not exactly fair to the top 8 teams, and it should be, because they were the best teams this year before the season was paused. Instead, it rewards the shittier teams.

Believe so.

sounds like it would be a round robin type thing. The 4 in each conference would play eachother to determine seeding while the other teams play a 5-game series:
That’s because the top-four teams in each conference will still be jockeying for seeding even while receiving a “bye” directly into the playoffs. The proposed format would see Boston, Tampa, Washington and Philadelphia play each other in the East while St. Louis, Colorado, Vegas and Dallas do so in the West, with the outcomes helping determine how those teams are seeded No. 1 through No. 4 to start the first round.

It also ensures those NHL heavyweights are given something to play for while the other 16 teams contest best-of five play-in series to determine their playoff opponents.

I like it.

I'd prefer maybe 5-8 regular season games for teams to knock off the rust and for me to potentially move into 3rd in my fantasy hockey league...

on the hawks front, Caggula, Bovquist and DeHaan all are supposed to be ready. Shaw is still doubtful. Really do not know if DeHaan is a good or bad thing, never really got going, but he was never really healthy either.
NHL upset with a few teams, including the hawks, since they announced they did not want any signings done during the break, and the Hawks, with Ian Mitchell, signed players without dating the contracts, only listed as TBD.

So if Mitchell makes the cut and dresses, who knows what the league ends up doing, it could be possible they date the contract from when it is signed and teams end up losing a year of control somehow. We saw the league punish the hawks over the Hossa contract stipulations, they dont really like the Keith deal either since he will be paid well past his prime, so who knows what ramifications happen with Mitchell. If they wanted him this badly, should have passed on DeHaan or Maata.

Let’s not be fooled here, the Blackhawks are the same Blackhawks team we saw play all year, they had there moments but there was a reason they were outside looking in, they are not very good, The Oilers offence will be to much for our weak defence. If by luck, Hawks advance they have 3 juggernaut teams waiting in the wings, Las Vegas, Colorado and the Blues and we know how our Hawks faired against them.
I would rather a nice high draft pick in the 1-5 zone, clear out salary and players and see what this team can establish next season.

Yes but if it's one thing I've learned in this pandemic it's that I'm so hungry for sports right now I'll even stoop to watching the Hawks in their horrific glory
