Heaven help the coach that promotes Flip to OC after the Bears season on "offense".
Pickings will be slim at OC after all the jobs are filled this year. He has more experience than most that will get jobs. Maybe they hold the Bears offense this year against him but Nagy sure looked to be the real problem.

Just saying good luck selling that to a fan base. Lord knows I wouldn't be excited. Think you see a lot of young guys get bumped up this year. Ken Dorsey is one name I'm seeing a ton of. He'll be an OC for sure.

I never understood the hype around McDaniels, going on 10+ years now, you’d think he’s Phil Jackson with the chatter he gets every off season

what was impressive about his tenure with Broncos? drafting Tebow? Got caught cheating/filming in the London game that year?

What about when he screwed the Colts? Real stand up guy

no you need to talk to people and confirm what you think you know. Not sit back and wait for the best bullshit salesman to make themselves sound perfect.

Just once I’d like to see the Bears get the fucking man. Like when the Chiefs grabbed Andy Reid, no wide net needed, made it happen.

did the cubs need a wide net to find Theo?
There's not a candidate available with a resume that stacks up with either of those two. McDaniels, maybe but there are concerns with him. What you're suggesting is alot easier said then done

Albright usually has good info. And this would make sense why Texans canned their coach after 1 season once they found out Flores was available
I could live with that.
And I laugh every time I see Pep Hamilton‘s name come up. For some reason he’s always getting touted but he’s never really had a significant role, has he?

This is a complete clown show. Interviewing like 30 people for this job when obvious candidates are sitting their ready to go. Why must they be “wow’d” in an interview? I can count on my hand the amount of times this type of hire has worked out.

They are not competent enough to see through bs, and the position is to detailed for someone with no experience since they will have no mentors to lean on in the building.

What is most likely to happen is they fall in love with some random again who is not ready, plus they will miss out on the top HC and have to settle on someone.
So essentially you’re suggesting they should do the hiring and not go through the interview process?

They should just identify one or two people and say that’s the guy for me and not talk to them?

Its such a good old boy network that it's really just taking a stab at a lottery ticket. Owners and GMs don't want to have to baby step with every new coach. Experience and who you know matters. Someone will get someone everyone thinks sucks and the cycle will repeat itself.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
I am going to take a wild guess and say they hire the new GM and then have him sit in the HC interviews after they have whittled them down to the finalists.

Such a dense response. Keep reading the thread I believe I answered this already.

identify, confirm via conversation, hire.

The research should have been complete well in advance of Monday. This isn’t a huge talent pool.

The top guys are:

GM:
Rick Smith (he would hire his HC)

or

HC:
Harbaugh (he would hire his GM)

Pick a path, act, win.

Now they may not turn out to be the best, very well could be a young star to hire, but this team doesn’t have the owner to identify potential. Pay for as close to a sure thing as you can. Move forward.

Hope this clears it up.

Oh and before you say Harbaugh isn’t leaving Michigan he hired a DL coach. If Monday afternoon George called him with a $10 million a year deal this would be done by now.
