Las Vegas Raiders lead series 8-7-0
BILAL NICHOLS/MARIO EDWARDS vs. ALEX LEATHERWOOD
The Raiders first round pick has not had a great start in the NFL. After four games starting at right tackle, Alex Leatherwood has been responsible for four sacks and 18 pressures, grading out as the second worst pass protector at his position according to PFF. As a response, the Raiders have been reportedly moved Leatherwood inside to right guard. While this takes him away from most teams best pass rushers, it does put him in the path of two of the Bears most underrated pass rushers. Nichols and Edwards combined for nine sacks last season. With the usual playmakers such as Aikem Hicks and Khalil Mack on the injury report, it will fall to the other members of a strong Chicago defensive line to make it's impact felt early on the road. With Leatherwood still struggling to find his footing in the pros, it will be up to Nichols and Edwards to make sure his struggles continue another week.
GERMAIN IFEDI vs. MAXX CROSBY
Ifedi looked far better in the win against the Lions than he did in the loss against Cleveland. While Crosby is certainly not the talent Myles Garrett is, he is a far more disruptive player than anyone Ifedi faced this past Sunday at Solider Field. With confirmation that rookie QB Justin Fields will be the Bears starting quarterback going forward, the gameplan for opposing defenses should be to copycat the Browns and get after Fields early and often. While Crosby only has two sacks on the season thus far, he leads in the NFL in total pressures at an astounding 30 in four games. Garrett exposed a weak right side for Chicago, can Crosby do the same?
ROQUAN SMITH vs. DARREN WALLER
Chicago's safeties are going to have to look out as well, but I imagine the Bears will be looking to matchup their star linebacker with the Raiders star tight end. Darren Waller has 24 catches (t-1st among TE), 39 targets (1st) and 6 catches of 15+ yards (t-2nd). He has been Derek Carr's go-to receiver and has the size and talent to keep the chains moving for his QB. While the Raiders have put up plenty of offense this season, they have started slow all year. Carr owns a passer rating of 50.7 in the first quarter of all games thus far with zero points. If Smith can take away Carr's security blanket early and often, the Bears have a great shot at extending the Raiders offensive woes far past the first fifteen minutes.
From the win against Detroit at Solider Field:
