Chicago Bears (3-11) vs Buffalo Bills (11-3)
Saturday, December 24th @ Noon (CST)
Solider Field
CBS 2
WBBM 780
Chicago Bears lead series 8-5-0
JAYLON JOHNSON vs STEFON DIGGS
Reports are that Diggs was very aggravated with his lack of targets in a very pass friendly offense and showed his displeasure on the sidelines against the Dolphins. While the weather conditions would say otherwise, it's not like Josh Allen is NOT going to throw the ball and it's likely Diggs will see as much of Jaylon Johnson as AJ Brown did. Johnson fought that matchup the best he could, but still gave up huge chunk plays to the Eagles star receiver. Seems like a good week to get Diggs rolling again before the playoffs as Chicago is doing next to nothing in the push rush department. Can Diggs get his first century mark since Week 10 or does the suddenly ballhawking Chicago secondary have another multiple interception day?
BEARS RUSHING ATTACK vs BILLS BASE DEFENSE
All season long opponents have tried to pull Buffalo out of their nickel package and for virtually the entire season the Bills have been able to play effectively enough with five defensive backs. Until last week against the Dolphins when they were effective in scheming up their rushing attack to pull nickel corner Taron Johnson into the box and defend the run against much larger blockers. Buffalo gave up 188 yards on the ground. Their 11.2 yards per carry on rushes outside the tackles last week was the most against Buffalo since Sean McDermott became head coach (2017). Now they face the best rushing offense in the NFL poised to get back second year back Khalil Herbert, who was averaging a league high six yards per carry before his injury. Does Leslie Frasier lean back into a more classic 4-3 approach and just who does he pull in as a third linebacker at a very thin position for the Bills?
SOLIDER FIELD vs LITERALLY EVERYONE
I mean after this game, I don't think anyone is going to be arguing the Bears fleeing to the suburbs for a gigantic climate controlled stadium over skyline views or whatever dipstick logic that is still out there saying Bear Nation needs to suffer frostbite to cheer on a three win team.
JUSTIN FIELDS PROGRESS REPORT:
- Justin Fields is tied for the sixth-best touchdown rate with 5.5% of his throws going for a score.
- On the other hand, 3.5% of his passes are intercepted. That’s second-worst in the league.
- Fields is tied for tenth-highest in the league with 7.5 yards gained per attempt.
- In a similar vein, Fields has the fifth-highest intended air yards.
- At 3.12 seconds on average, Fields takes the longest time to throw in the NFL.
- Justin Fields is sacked 14.4% of the time. That’s not only worst in the league, the closest is Russell Wilson is at 9.8%.
- Fields is 29th in number of passes attempted. In fact, seven of the quarterbacks on the list who have attempted more passes than Fields have played at least two games less than him.
