Chicago Bears lead series 104-75-5
CHASE CLAYPOOL vs JERRY JACOBS
Claypool's debut in Chicago may be remember most for the penalty that never was, but with another week with his new team, the Bears should be looking to get their new receiver more involved against a generous Lions defense. Second year defensive back Jerry Jacobs returned to the lineup in Detroit last Sunday and had himself a bit of a coming out party against the struggling Aaron Rodgers. Jacobs allowed no catches on four targets in coverage and had a key pass deflection down the stretch to help seal the win. Still, at 5'11, Claypool can provide a nightmare matchup for the surging young cornerback. Can Jacobs keep his momentum going or will this week being Chase Claypool's coming out party?
JARED GOFF vs JAQUAN BRISKER/EDDIE JACKSON
After a red hot start to the season (11 TDs & over 1100 yards), Jared Goff has put up far more conservative numbers the past four weeks against some of the league's better defenses. While Chicago’s defense isn’t the elite unit of 2018, that doesn’t mean its defense doesn’t still have ball-hawking talent on the back end. Eddie Jackson is having a renaissance season and rookie safety Jaquan Brisker continues to adapt to this level at an impressive rate. With Roquan Smith in Baltimore, Jackson now leads the defense with 65 tackles, adding four interceptions and two forced fumbles. The veteran safety is impressively meshing well with his rookie cohort. Brisker has 55 tackles and three sacks while intercepting one pass and adding four tackles for loss. Pro Football Focus ranks the pair as the team’s top two defenders among those with enough snaps. Can Goff get back on track in Chicago or will this young secondary get the better of him too?
JUSTIN FIELDS vs AIDAN HUTCHINSON
On the opposite end of the QB spectrum, Justin Fields looks to be finally finding his way to be successful in the NFL. With the coaching staff in Chicago embracing the young quarterback's rushing abilities, Fields has over 400 rushing yards in the last four games, including a record setting 178 yards against Miami while showing off his improved passing abilities tossing 3 touchdowns as well. On the other side of the ball, Detroit has the emerging defensive star in second overall pick, Aidan Hutchinson. He leads all NFL rookies in sacks (4.5), pressures (14) and quarterback hits (9) at the midpoint of the season. However, it was Hutchinson that lost contain on Aaron Rodgers on a 18 yard scramble enabling the Packers to convert a 3rd and 17 late in the game. The Lions better hope the rookie learned something on that play because keeping contain on Justin Fields is going to have to be the entire game plan. Can the star rookie get the NFC Offensive Player of the Week looking more like the player of September or will the red hot QB make him look every bit a rookie?
