Remember having this debate years ago but yeah guys like Urlacher and Briggs who were close to Jones ruined the Ced Benson pick more than anything. They legit were out there trying to hurt him and he injured his shoulder which not only delayed his development but also soured him on the Bears. To be sure Ced was arrogant but that lack of veteran leadership was the downfall of the Bears.

Eh

Seemed like there was a bit of douchebaggery aimed at Benson for sure.

But come on. He was a total bitch about it. And it wasn't crazy. They weren't beating him with soap in a sock.

That was an established, serious team with legit SB aspirations. All Benson had to do was get to work, show he was serious, and contribute and he would have been accepted in no time.

Instead, he responded in the worst possible way, feeling sorry for himself and crying and being a bitch about joining what was maybe the best team in the NFL.

Sometimes dudes have to realize it's not about you, that there is something bigger happening

I dont think intentionally trying to injure a guy because you favor Thomas Jones is normal or evidence of a serious team. They put their loyalty to Jones ahead of the team.

Benson was actually in line to be the starter for the 2006 season as Jones was unhappy with his contract. Instead he was injured in practice by Urlacher missing most of preseason and Jones got the starting nod.

Expecting anyone to just be ok with his own teammates actively trying to injure and derail his career is a bit much IMO. That conflict probably cost the Bears a SB and I blame the vets for it more than I blame a young RB. Regardless of how you feel about certain guys as vets you do whats best for your team and it should never come to trying to injure guys.

But of course this was a team run by Kreutz who broke his own teammate's jaw. Too many meatballs on that team.
