I can't remember the last time that a star player, like Roquan Smith, holding out (in) produced so little news. No team or agent leaks...no cut and paste news articles about the Bears being cheap...not even much fan angst on here.

Oddly silent on all fronts.

There has been infinitely more of all about a malcontent, done nothing OL than the leader of the Bears defense.

Kinda odd

It does seem odd - maybe it's because he is actually there? That's gotta be awkward.

I imagine angst with fans and stories pick up as we get closer to the season.

Probably because he doesn't have an agent to leak a story from.
True ( insert user)'s alt.

Still seems eerily quite by media and the lack of CCS meltdown is unprecedented.

From a fan perspective I think it’s tough to discuss when there really isn’t much information out there. We all know he is there, which is a good thing but there are no signs of what the outcome might be. The only discussion there really is to have about his situation is if Smith is worth the big contract or not and CCS has already gone through that.

Roquan leading by example - this is the right way to handle "conflict" with a FO. Jenkins probably avoids all of the media attention if he just stood around on the sidelines at camp/casually rode the stationary bike for 5 minutes once in awhile when he wasnt with the trainer, instead of being completely absent. Shame on his agent, you expect a kid to not handle everything perfectly his first time in a situation but the agency should absolutely know better.

I just need more dipshits to tell everyone that he signed a contract and that he needs to honor that contract and practice at camp.

Pull yourself up by your bootstraps and play ball. It's what every red blooded blue collar american man would do!

Maybe hold-ins aren't as sexy as holdouts?

I feel like he's been a relatively high character guy from all we know of him, and that he is at camp, but taking it a bit easy and not putting himself in harm's way for no reason. I'm projecting here, but do we mostly just expect this to get ironed out and that he won't actually miss games? Feels that way. It did, even with Briggs when he had his agent barking and Briggs saying "I'll never play another down for the Chicago Bears" and that hoopla. It got settled. Roquan's will too, although to OP's credit, it could be trickier given Poles is new and Roquan doesn't have Brigg's credentials (yet).

Wouldn't it favor them to make a deal before he reaches FA after this spring? Cap is limited right now though - sorry Quan. IDK.

His mother is his agent. Must be strange for Poles to negotiate with someone's mom. I am sure according to her he is the best LB in the NFL.

No agent and he's a pretty quiet/keep to himself dude. That's all there really is to it.

Cause only 1980s meatballs care about an off the ball LB who is to small for the Flus defense anyways. They shouldn’t pay him as the top LB in the NFL until he proves he is a force in the ancient arts of cover who.

They should have paid Allen Robinson especially a little more then that deal he received. Watch what he does this year.

I personally think Smith deserves the money but I am on the fence about the Bears giving it to him or not. Curious though why you think he is too small for Flus defense? Shaquille (Darius) Leonard is not that much bigger than Smith and he more than succeeded in this defense.

As far as ARob goes, I think he could have a very strong year. The Rams have a phenomenal offense with a great play caller. He was never going to sign with the Bears after Pace/Nagy pissed him off. Doesn’t matter how much money you tossed his way.

I actually didn't expect to hear much until later and if there's a seeming impasse. It's early but this sure negates any chance of Smith playing the Mike. Maybe this situation had something to do with assignments. He should be fine to great at Will, even with a short camp.

What I find more interesting is that there wasn't anything but speculation about Teven as well. Nobody still knows what was up. We heard teams called the Bear but no indication the the Bear were in sell mode.

Something I haven't seen brought up is the possibility that Teven's 'therapy' may have been a shrink of sorts.

This rah, rah crew was never going to make an offer to a guy that mailed it in last year anyway.
