Now that Hamlin is basically out the weeds and en route to a successful recovery, I wanted to pose a question that's been weighing on my mental
Has the NFL just created themselves another shitstorm with the way they handled this entire situation? Just cancelling games halfway through the first quarter?
Not only does this greatly screw over the fans who bought tickets to see your product in action, but it's a slippery slope in general. What is stopping any team going forward to not try and have a game cancelled due to a "serious injury" once they are losing 49-10? They can literally just site this fucked up mess as the precedent. They could have chosen to move Hamlin off the field and continue the game like they did for all previous injuries (remember how Knox had the back of his shoulders touch his ankles and business continued) but instead they chose to basically weaponize Twitter emotions and fake care virtue signaling, and now who can blame other teams for trolling the heartstrings for free cancellations? They did this shit to themselves.
Over/under on cancelled or attempt to cancel games is set at 3.5 games next season. Exciting stuff!
