Packers have one of the worst cap situations in the league considering they are supposed to be Super Bowl contenders. Teams like the Saints are rebuilding and dealing with previous years of can kicking so the fact on paper their cap situation looks awful in context it doesn’t matter since they are expected to be bad.

Bakhtiari and Amos are obvious cuts, but they will need to trim more fat. Lazard is as good as gone since he’ll get more money elsewhere. They already went down the restructuring path with many guys already. Additional restructuring will just prolong the pain of not being competitive. Wouldn’t surprise me if they have to end up cutting Aaron Jones too.
NEVER Underestimate the Packers ability to pull an all pro QB out of their ass

Yeah that was so stupid of the Packers to sign their back to back league MVP QB to a big contract. Way worse than the Bears passing up drafting the best player in the world for a guy who might be on his 4th team next season.
You're right that was stupid.

As stated multiple times during their last game, the Pack was one of, if not the healthiest team going into the end of the season. They're big run towards the playoffs was beating a bad Bears & Rams team, they beat a reeling Dolphin team where Tua doesn't even remember playing the 2nd half, then a Viking team (that obviously was overrated) in GB where the Vikings suck. The 1st real team that was playing well in their final 5 games was the Lions, with nothing to play for. The Pack lost this game at home knowing they make the playoffs if they win. Outside of Watson getting more experience, this is what the Packers will look like next year. Probably fighting for a playoff spot again. They'll be ok but not a superbowl contender. After next year is a lot of questions marks. Will Love be the leader they hope, odds say no but you never know. Also, they have really been kicking the salary cap can down the road the last couple years, something their previous GM never did.

Excuse me? You started talking about pickles and didn't even bother to mention your preference.

You can't really think giving Rodgers that $$ was worse than the Bears QB debacle in 2017??? Come on now.

The Packers cap hell is starting this year. 14.8M over the cap going into the off-season with a bunch of holes opening up.

They’ve handed out so many void year deals and extensions recently that they have few options. It’ll likely cost them Bakhtiari and then some.

Amos is on the books for 7.9M but he’s UFA. Same for 5 other guys, FAs but counting 1M+ against the cap. It’s staggering to look at.

5th year options are hitting for Gary and Savage. Gotta think they’re going to have trouble resigning guys unless they get out of the Rodgers deal next year.

Green Bay is in a huge pickle situation. I laugh when I look at a declining expensive QB, the terrible cap situation and all the restructures they have to do to kick the can down the road.
The Bears are always beat up for moving up to get Trubisky and missing on Mahomes but that was nothing compared to the Packers signing Rodgers for a huge extension, him going down hill fast, not knowing what they have in Love etc. when they should have traded him to the Bronco's last year and gotten the deal Seattle wound up with for Russell Wilson. Had they done that they would be in the drivers seat with draft picks, players and cap space, instead they are done for years to come.
Moving on to the Titans they will done as well as they are interviewing Nagy to be their new OC. How can anyone with half a brain not see he is a complete idiot?
Only thing he should be allowed to do is run out the gatorade

As Bears fans looking at three decades of history, we're hardwired to think the Packers will always find a way. But if this were any other team, yes, we'd all look at them and say they're fucked for years to come. That doesn't have to mean 5+ years, but at least the next few years, for sure.

The football gods come for everyone eventually. They came for the Broncos. They came for the Colts. And now they're here for the Packers.

This thread has turned into a classic dill pickle situation. OP didn't realize that was his bread and butter.
Fuck bread and butter pickles and the horse they rode in on.

Good football organizations don't typically stay bad for long. I fully expect the Packers to still be good and competitive as long as Aaron is there even if he is declining. Fascinated to see what they do with Jordan Love.
The only way they do that is if the NFL exempts them from the salary cap.

I've spent some time looking at the Pack's situation on Sportrac and it is definitely painful. I think they have to drop Bakhtiari as well as Aaron Jones and Amos. Their only saving grace is that to-date, they don't have much of a dead cap hit but the void years start to come due and they will have holes opening with no resources to fill them. Their other benefit has been they have been pretty good at hitting on their draft picks and they will need to continue to hit as the will need immediate contributors to fill in the holes as they begin to carve off the bloated contracts on their team. I won't rule them out just yet as competitors in the division, but they will have very little flexibility to try and address deficiencies in the roster as the salaries of some of these deals come through.

Actually it is worse when you consider what the Packers could have gotten for Rodgers vs. where they will be for the next several years. Mahomes wasn't a slam dunk and was not all that highly regarded at that time, pre Andy Reid. The Packers now have an unknown quantity in Love who is near the end of his rookie deal and Rodgers is in major decline. Over the cap, holes all over the roster, fewer draft picks etc etc.

Agreed. I don't think even God will gift them a 3rd straight HOF QB. Welcome to hell Packer fans!
