I am with you in wanting no part of Story.

Well I would be if he was not the main mover.

Say they get Seager for SS. Get Stroman and Rodon. Then the DH opens up. He decides to target Story for 3B and moves Wisdom to DH/1B swap with Schwindel.

Then it is fine.

Story: .251/.329/.471 with 24 HR's. 3B
Seager .306/.394/.521 16 HR SS
Wisdom .231/.305/.518 28 HR DH
Schwindel .342/.389/.613 13 HR 1B
Ortega .291/.360/.463 11 HR CF
Hoerner .302/.382/.369 0 HR UI
Madrigal .305/.349/.425 2 HR 2B
Contreras .237/.340/.438 21 HR C
Happ .226/.323/.434 25 HR LF

It is not a bad line up at all. Have Hoerner get reps in the OF to cut into Heyward's PA's until Davis is ready.

And everyone else are the ones being unrealistic of course. It's funny he didn't want story, but someone agreeing they didn't want story made him create this bizarre scenario where he wants story now
Flavor of the day.

OK. Story is a SS. There are 5 FA SS on the market. My comment about not wanting Story is assuming they get him to play the only position he has ever played, not a move to a new position.

And my concern with him is offensively, as he moves out of Colorado, so moving him to a new position where his offense where he has less value defensively would not be an improvement.

And I also am speaking of realistic possibilities, not some scenario where the Cubs get Story AND another SS.

I guess in the above scenario where every FA comes to the Cubs, they wold not be reliant on Story, so......

That would be one hell of an infield defense. Story at a new position, Madrigal and Schwindel on the right side. Opposing batters would get on every time they hit the ball on the ground.

I know people were mesmerized by Schwindel's two month offensive output, but as a 1B he leaves a lot to be desired. Defense matters at 1B and his was weak, to put it mildly.

So people are now reporting the types of deals the Cubs are targeting are 2-3 year deals with high AAV.

Who does this sound like to you? 29-30 years olds who probably can't get 7 year deals.

Rodon, Gausman, Ray, Stroman, Gray
Semian, Bryant, Story, Baez, Taylor, Castellenos

Give me 2 SP's and one IF and OF and we got a deal.

This does fit the mold of winning now and not blocking anyone.

I don't think you have to worry about Story....even if they disregard the Colorado hitting numbers, they won't pass by the fact he strikes out about 150 times a year. I'm pretty sure that's exactly what they are trying to avoid. Just like us, Hoyer has seen enough swing and miss in Chicago to last a lifetime.

I still think he's bringing in some lower tier guys hoping for big years then flipping them for some youth. I'm not buying the win now bullshit. He's not stupid. What else can he say? He can't/won't say we don't care about winning this year....we're looking down the road for that....even though I'm sure that's what his plans are.

Ya it would never happen. That is why I went over the top with it to prove it is never going down.

If the Cubs had the pitching in hand sure. That is a over the top post on purpose.

I would do:
Stroman 4/100
Semain 3/75
Rodon 3/60

I don't think they need a OF. They could push the button on Davis and fill that need. Adding a SS moves Nico more into a Rover. That really fills the need on a RH hitting CF and reduce PA on Heyward.

Pitching is still the top need. If Jed is thinking 3-4 year deals this is a maybe.
