Im bored so figured i do some research on how long it takes for small-medium markets to rebuild teams. I wont do Big Markets cause clearly Cubs not acting like a Big Market but rather a small-medium market team

ALE:

Tampa- http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/TBD/ 1998-2007 10 yrs of losing before playoffs

BAL- http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/BAL/ 1997-2012 15 yrs of losing before playoffs

TOR- http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/TOR/ 1993-TBD Havent been to playoffs in 21 years

ALC:

CLE: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CLE/ 2007-2013 7 yrs between playoffs.

KCR: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/KCR/ 1985-TBD Havent been to playoffs in 26 yrs

MIN: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MIN/ 2010-TBD They are basicaly where Cubs are now. Still 7+ yrs away from winnings

CHW: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CHW/ 2008-TBD 5 yrs of no playoffs with more to come

ALW:

OAK: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/OAK/ 2006-2012 Took 6 yrs to rebuild

SEA: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/SEA/ 2001-TBD 13 yrs and counting. Been through multiple Rebuilds

HOU: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/HOU/ 2005-TBD 8 yrs and counting. No one sees them doing anything for another 5+ yrs

NLE:

ATL: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/ATL/ 2006-2010 I give ATL alot of credit. They really good at building teams on medium budget

WSN: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/WSN/ 1981-2012 21 yrs of losing before playoffs

MIA: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/FLA/ 2003-TBD 10+ yrs since they hurt all Cub fans with more yrs to come

NYM: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYM/ 2006-TBD They Big Market being cheap to and now on 8 yrs of rebuilding with more to come

NLC:

PIT: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/PIT/ 1992-2013 21 yrs of losing before finally winning

CIN: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CIN/ 1995-2010 15 yrs of losing before nice string now

MIL: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MIL/ 1982-2008 16 yr of losing before playoffs.

STL: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/STL/ Swear god is a STL fan. ATL and STL best 2 medium market teams easily

Cubs: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CHC/ 2008-TBD They wont be good for another 5+ yrs. Should be Big Market but cheap owner

NLW:

ARI: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/ARI/ This surprised me a bit. They dont rebuild to long. 5 yrs Max so far

SDP: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/SDP/ 2006-TBD 7 yrs and still going

COL: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/COL/ 1995-2007 12 yrs got good for 2 yrs and now rebuilding for 5th straight yr

SFG: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/SFG/ 2003-2010- 8 yrs to build. Also starting to act like big market now

Basicaly this shows that teams will suck for 7+ yrs before team starts to win. Cubs are just 2 yrs into there process. If anyone thinks this rebuild going to work the 1st time has something coming to them. Dont expect to be in playoffs until around 2020

Your not really comparing apples to apples here. The cubs last made the playoffs in 2009. That means 2014 will be the fifth year of the rebuild not the third. If you're going off the 7+ year then that is fairly well in line with what most people would expect from the cubs in that year 5(2014) is likely to be a bust with year 6(2015) being more competitive and year 7(2016) having a realistic shot.

Considering the team had to rebuild from the bottom up and had to shed aging vets on back loaded contract. (Ya the Trib tossed the load on the next guy like dicks) then the Trib did not spend on Facilities and now the Ricketts has to rebuild the wreck.

So what do you expect? The city is not flipping the bill like they did for the Bears and the Sox.

So this little tirade is old. Sorry they have to run a business also and ya they have a neglected mess they took on.

So my suggestion is deal with it and it will pass. Just a bump in the road.

It's a free country. No one forced the Ricketts to purchase the Cubs organization. No one forced the Ricketts to keep Wrigley and reinvent the dumpster as opposed to moving them to a new cathedral.

Parade-Rain makes a point and immediately you tell him to follow another team?
Ricketts is a Cub fan, but he's a bigger "money" fan. He never would have bought the Cubs with the intention of moving.
Cubs won't have to contend for a WS until the newness of the Wrigley rebuild becomes passé.
Maybe 2-3 years after the Wrigley re-vamp? The people that are fine with that are Kool-Aid drinking sheep or fiscally responsible junior GM's in a fantasy baseball league.

My post was as matter of fact as possible. They bought it of their own free will. I'm not going to have a pity party for the ownership because they misjudged what they could get done with Wrigley.

Yes, the Sox are rebuilding. Atleast, they've started clearing some salary, more trades to come hopefully.

Cubs fans are the biggest fools in baseball, which is why everyone makes fun of them.

The only good reason NOT to spend money improving their roster would have been, "hey, we're going to vacate and demolish Wrigley and build a brand new Billion dollar stadium SOMEWHERE else in the metropolitan Chicagoland area. In the meantime, we plan to restock the farm system and develop our young talent. In three years, when the new Wrigley Field is done, we should be ready to take on the world."

If the fans don't like the idea of tearing down Wrigley, fug'em. It's not like they're going to not show up, they're Cubs fans after all.

For the record, I've been to the Cell, Yankee Stadium, the new stadium in Baltimore, and other stadiums around the league. Wrigley Field is a freaking craphole in comparison and Cubs fans deserve better than that. It's a damn shame how bad that stadium is.

I am all for a team revamping certain aspects but now we have excuses being made for way beyond the 5 year plan. At some point it becomes laughable.

yep we are at the least retooling. As far as wrigley goes it is bad but the sheep will say "therez so much historyzz there you cant tearszz it downz" but what do I know, I just saw the real history and real cathedral demolished with the likes of millions of championships, founding baseball fathers etc in old yankee stadium. not building new is a mistake. period.

Again they own the team. By owning something that gives them the "right" to do what they want. They could sell it. Move it fix it or do nothing which is what the Trib did.

We are fans. We can take it of leave it. Your choice. I don't care to be honest but again I'm sick of hearing the negitive crap spewing from the base. Grow the F. Up. Don't like it don't be a fan. Pretty simple.

My case in point: I like that they are investing into the team and into the stadium. Shows they give a shit about the fan experience. My memories of Wrigg was piss hole and it needed to be fixed in a bad way.

Other than that Im going on 40 years of watching this shitty team and what is a few more? If they still suck and make the park a better experience good. At least something came out of it.

But in short. Bitching about it from a 3rd person perspective with out even being involved with the process is plain ignorant talk. I did it myself and gave it up. Not changing anything and just made me bitter. F-it just a bump in the road.

We don't know the books. That is a baseless assumption.

You could have said that about the Trib. They soaked profits for years then right before they sold they created a 140 mil payroll that brought in this new wave of trolls. Err fans

Just to up the sale price. Ya keep blaming the Ricketts for cleaning up the F-up that the Trib neglected.

And on the move out talk? Uhm Wrigg is the reason the team has a base. It is not winning for sure.

The yanks built their bace on winning. They were retaining it if they moved.

I would not say the same for the Cubs. If they moved and still sucked the Sox would become the bigger draw.

So that would be called killing the golden Goose. Not to smart to do it.

So in view of this ya they have little option but to invest into the park because that is what brings in the fans. They are not coming in to watch quality games.

I would say wgn is the reason cubs have a huge fan base. Wrigley is a huge draw don't get me wrong but wgn made the cubs have the fan base outside the city. It's the reason I am a cubs fan.

I can understand that. The times have changed as less games are being telivised and with MLB team packs on cable. Hey the Braves moved on from TBS there is no reason to stand on a dead horse. WGN is a relic that doesn't add any quality viewing. Americas funniest videos and reruns is not my Idea of quality TV. Especially in the current times where the best shows are on cable (walking dead and Breaking Bad). WGN is a model that was outdated in the 80's and they are mired in it.

But for myself I started as a Dodger fan then shifted to the home team. Even though they sucked. The rest of my friends and family lived Bill Veck's sox and they were fun back then. Don't care for Riensdork to be honest. Jerk who ran MJ out.... But igot into the team by going to Wrigg then started to watch on TV. When Harry moved accross town to the Cubs I was hooked. Still it is not the same after him. So the TV side could care less. I liked Harry and Stine. Rest are ok.

But the park is still unique. Now I wouldn't want to play there. Crash into brick would suck ass.
