We are planning a trip out of state in a few weeks and looked at rental SUV's. The prices now are brutal. It would probably be cheaper to fly, but that's an issue with a dog to bring along.
Anyone know of any tips or tricks to find one at a decent price?

Buy one. 0% interest with low payments and a long warranty. Be a safe and fun trip.

Take pictures of all the body panels before leaving the lot, right in front of the agent. And if you don't smoke ,request a car that don't stink like an ashtray.

Maybe combo it with your hotel?

We will be staying with relatives so no hotel. I just found out a should be able to rent one through a friend that GM's a dealership. I'd rather not go that route though.

Impress them when you pull up in a new SUV.

If you have a Costco membership they have car rentals through their travel site, It is included at no cost to a regular membership. They always seem to have the best deals I can find and they go through all the major rental companies.

I did enterprise for a couple weeks when I got the new pooch- got a little shitbox suv to transport him with his cast after surgery.

The price was reasonable but I was not supposed to have pets in it.
I put the seats down and covered the entire back with moving pads.

I don't know if enterprise is odd for having a pet restriction or not, so you might want to check and plan for covering up your illicit cargo.

Just minorly wreck your car into a pole or something and drive off with the loaner while you pay the deductible and wait for them to get it in.

Thanks, but we don't have a Cosco membership.

check this site out. Never used it, but have a buddy who swears by it.

That site has some pretty good prices, I'll check further into it. Thanks man.
