It’s hard to make a six or seven minute half time show good.

I also think that there isn’t a dearth of great music the past 25 years or so but that’s just my opinion.

I like older music but walking out 80 year old Rolling Stones isn’t my idea of a great show either.

And it's not just about cultural relevance on who is chosen. There are always political and audience ramifications involved. If it was just about relevance, we would be seeing guys like Toby Keith, Luke Bryan, and Garth Brooks. I can admit that and I hate country music. But they sell out stadiums like it's the superbowl. Dave Matthews or Radiohead if we want to switch to more rock oriented genre. And Metallica might outsell all of them but ofcourse they would never have a metal act play.

They have to find someone who can make a pop music that will draw in 14 year old girls while simultaneously showing some skin to attract 45 year old virgins that don't know how to look up porn while also making a political statement to attract 45 year old progressive suburban women who are mad at the world because their husbands don't want to fuck their fat ass anymore.

And Rihanna has tons club bangers and dance tunes. Rihanna fan base is for the city folks that love to party. Your assessment is way off

If i stretch, I can only even remember the Blues Brothers show from the 90s.
Anything before that was all weird stuff like ice skaters and Disney characters. It hadn't taken the world by storm back in the day. I think they even still had marching bands in the 80's.

I remember the 1st Panthers Super Bowl for Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction. All time great moment IMO. The Shania Twain performance might have been during the Bucs Raiders one from the previous season.
