It’s not political, it’s a sports thread. It’s literally about a sports team

How about the Foreskins?
Believe it or not, most Americans would be more offended by that name. Besides being obscene, majority of males in U.S. don't have foreskins.

It's removed for mostly superficial reasons. All started because of Dr. Kellogg, the cereal guy, who was a medical doctor and eugenicist who advocated no racial mixing (believed that immigrants and non-whites would damage the nation's gene pool), that any sexual activity outside of trying for pregnancy was unhealthy, performed female genital mutilation (undiluted phenol to clitoris), and of course performed male circumcision without anesthetic (he cut off his own foreskin when he was 37). To keep children from diddling themselves, he recommended tying their hands, caging their genitals, sewing the foreskin shut, and electrical shock. If you're circumcised, this white supremacist nutjob was more than likely the reason. Even his famous corn flakes were designed to be an anaphrodisiac.

Think of all the merch they’d sell if they change the name. I don’t buy the people saying they’re done with the NFL if they change it. They’ll be back.

Why wouldn't the Chicago Blackhawks be next?

Especially the Indian head logo?

Probably because they are indirectly named after a Native American chief.

By contrast, Redskin is not the name of tribe or person. It is a racial slur.

It would like comparing a team namef the N-Word vs a team named the Kings after MLK. The former is a slur. The latter is honoring a person.

No, what they should do is intentionally contract Covid-19 and cough on every SJW shitstain they can find.

I want all of these turds to die.

If you want someone to die, COVID would be one of the worst methods of going about that.

The problem with polls like this is that it is based on people that self identify as Native. Thus Elizabeth Warren could fill this out. You should ask yourself why they dont do a poll of Natives that actually live on the reservations and actually keep their traditions and the answer is the people that actually do so already organized themselves and oppose the name.

You can see the list of Native organizations that oppose the name and are made up of actual people recognized as Native. But sure let's trust a poll that I as a black man can fill out as long as I claimed to have some semblance of Native blood.

Imagine if a people that are suppose to have sovereignty elected a President to represent them and then when that President is saying something needs to change, the other party says let's ignore the President and listen to what anonymous people that claim to be from said country say.

Native Tribes have some measure of sovereignty and elect leaders. It is a further sign of disrespect to Native people that those leaders are ignored whenever they advocate for the rights of their people so that we can listen to online Elizabeth Warrens.

Actual Native Americans that oppose the name
  • Sherman Alexie (Spokane, author): "Most, you know, at least half the country thinks the mascot issue is insignificant. But I think it's indicative of the ways in which Indians have no cultural power."[32]
  • Bruce Anderson (Coquille people): "I challenge [owner Dan Snyder] to focus on winning ... but also an opportunity for me to simply sit with my grandchildren to watch my former team without having to cut through the racial stereotypes."[33]
  • Allen Barbre (Tunica-Biloxi), a Philadelphia Eagles player, refuses to use the name of the Washington team.[34]
  • Irene Bedard (Inupiat, Inuit and Métis, actress): She's really upset about some of the costumes the cheerleaders have worn through the years -- calling them over sexualized and "degrading" to proud Native American women like herself.[35]
  • Notah Begay (Navajo, PGA pro golfer) called the Redskins' name "a very clear example of institutionalized degradation of an ethnic minority."[36]
  • Clyde Bellecourt (Ojibwe, co-founder of the American Indian Movement)[37]
  • Bob Burns (Blackfeet elder)[38]
  • Ben Nighthorse Campbell (Northern Cheyenne, U.S. Senator)[39]
  • Gregg Deal (Paiute Tribe of Pyramid Lake, artist/activist, and DC Area resident): "People aren't just emboldened by their team to treat poorly those of us that would oppose such "honor." They are actually empowered in being aggressive to the point of assault, verbal or physical, threatened or made good. I live in a world where I must coach my children not to talk about such things publicly in school because a classmate may come at them, or even a teacher. The threat of aggression because of who we are is real and enabled by the Washington Redskins. That is not a complaint; that is the truth."[40]
  • Vine Deloria, Jr. (Sioux, historian/author)[41]
  • Jim Enote (Zuni), director of the A:shiwi A:wan Museum and Heritage Center in New Mexico[42][43]
  • Louise Erdrich (Chippewa, novelist/poet) – "It's more than a stereotype, it's an insult, and they don't have to perpetuate it."[44]
  • Donna Fann-Boyle (Choctaw/Cherokee, activist)[45]
  • Claudia Fox Tree (Arawak, teacher) – "It's part of a much larger issue in that those sort of depictions are our only representation in modern America. It isn't just the sin of stereotypes and misinformation, it's the sin of absence – of not seeing yourself or the people you come from anywhere, of not seeing any contemporary images."[46]
  • Stephanie Fryberg, Phd. (Tulalip, Professor of American Indian Studies and Psychology at the University of Washington)
  • Kevin Gover (Pawnee, director of The Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian)[47]
  • Suzan Shown Harjo (Cheyenne/Hodulgee Muscogee, author/activist)[48]
  • Tara Houska (Ojibwe/Couchiching First Nation, attorney/activist) [49]
  • Bronson Koenig (Ho-Chunk Nation, Wisconsin Badgers guard)[50]
  • Litefoot (Cherokee/Chichimeca, rapper) ironically celebrates Native American team names as "recreational genocide" on the track 'Stereotipik'.[51]
  • Dana Lone Hill (Oglala Lakota Sioux, writer): The refusal to rename the Redskins is far worse than Donald Sterling's racist remarks.[52]
  • Adrienne Keene (Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, Assistant Professor of American Studies and Ethnic Studies at Brown University)
  • Russell Means (Oglala Lakota, activist/actor)[53]
  • Billy Mills (Sioux, Olympic gold medal winner)[54]
  • David Narcomey (Seminole Nation of Oklahoma)[55]
  • Ted Nolan (First Nations Ojibway, NHL player and coach)[56]
  • Cornel Pewewardy (Comanche-Kiowa, Professor of Education at Portland State University)[57]
  • Oklahoma businessman Ryan Red Corn (Osage): Dan Snyder is an "idiot" for keeping the name.[58]
  • Buford Rolin (Creek tribal chairman)[59]
  • Gyasi Ross (Blackfeet Nation/Suquamish Territories, author/attorney): Regarding team supporters citing larger issue faced by Native Americans than a team name, "Native people shouldn't be forced to choose between living or racial discrimination. Those are false binaries."[60]
  • Shoni Schimmel (Umatilla, Louisville Cardinals guard, class of 2015)[61]
  • Charlene Teters (Spokane, artist/lecturer)[62]
  • Summer Wesley (Choctaw attorney, writer, and activist)[63]
  • W. Richard West Jr. (Cheyenne, President of the Autry National Center in Los Angeles): Redskin is "an openly derogatory term. It always is and it always has been." West also characterizes the Original American's Foundation as an "attempt to divert attention from the fact that his team's nickname is coming under increasing heat from people who think it's an offensive racial term."[64]
  • Ray Young Bear (Meskwaki, author)[65]

But an anonymous person in an internet survey claimed they were 1/36th Native and said they are proud of the name.

I will note again that the Tribes are supposed to have some measure of sovereignty. So are we going to start disregarding what the leaders of every nation say in favor of internet polls or just when it comes to Native Americans? Andrew Jackson would be proud.

I just hope the Redskins change their name to something cool and creative and not vanilla af like the "Nationals" or the "Capitals," "Senators." Those are all effing lame. Besides, politicians don't deserve a nod in the name change.

How the fuck to you make a poll on here?

Do you think the team will keep some sort of reference to Natives or go in a completely different direction? I do believe if you go with something like the Washington Warriors you risk having to change it again later down the road. They could try and reconcile with a Nation and name it after them outta respect. I think ignoring the Natives completely, and going with a Boaty McBoat Face name, is a slap in the face too. Kinda hard to leave them in the cold now.

Lol! Is this just the dress rehearsal for balkanization?

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Maryland Terrapins
Why not an actual tribe local to the area? Instead of vaguely representing Native Americans, why not an individual?

Wicomico
Matapony
Accokeek
Potomac
Piscataway
Nentego

There are many.

Warriors are cool though.

Or maybe Washington Unrepresenteds?
Or no area name? maybe FedEx Airmen? FedEx Package Pushers? FedEx Freighters?
