BOURBONNAIS -- Lovie Smith lamented a couple decisions by the Bears while celebrating the return of Chris Harris on Sunday night.

Harris was traded three years ago last week when the Bears came and plucked him off the field at Olivet Nazarene University during stretching before practice. He was dealt to the Carolina Panthers for a 2008 fifth-round draft choice, a pick that turned into cornerback Zack Bowman.

"(Harris) should be happy about being back," Smith said. "He probably never should have gone."Smith played a role in Harris exiting following the team'sappearance in Super Bowl XLI. The Bears coach was behind the team'strade with the Washington Redskins for Adam Archuleta after the formerstar in St. Louis was a free-agent failure. Smith also was high onKevin Payne, a safety drafted in the fifth round in 2007 from the sameschool as Harris, Louisiana-Monroe. What the club said was that Paynewould be an upgrade on Harris.

But the Bears found a way to fix the situation byre-acquiring Harris by trading Jamar Williams, a steady special-teamsplayer who never really found a niche in the depth chart at linebacker. Now, it's up to Harris to anchor the secondary and bring along a youngplayer like Major Wright.

"He's one of the guys, a vocal guy, coaches on the field, quarterbacking our defense back there," Smith said of Harris. "Yeah,I'm definitely happy to see him back there making plays."

Yeah, that was a mistake and I hope he produces like he did in his last tenure with the Bears.

To be fair, no one thought that Adam Archuleta would tank that badly, and they thought that they had good safety depth w/ a young Kevin Payne. Turns out that neither were true, Payne was underwhelming, and Harris shined as a Panther.
