Why not both?

Jarvis Landry can play outside & slot but they are two different receivers that both would compliment Bears offense in a unique way.

Ridley kind of sucks after the catch though, whereas Landry is pretty good. I don't see why it's one or the other, either. I'm fact, signing Landry and drafting Ridley after a trade down would seem a pretty ideal situation for the Bears.

I hope you don't want Nelson cuz the highest paid guard tops out at 12mil.

Ridley will cost the 8th pick.

The Texans traded a 2nd round pick for 18 million in cap space.

What do you think the 8th pick is worth?

There is no case. Both require a substantial investment and Landry is far more established.

The question of Ridley at 8 has more or less nothing to do with Landry, and everything to do with guys like Nelson/Edmunds/Davenport/Fitzpatrick or whoever else may be there at pick #8.

Its not an either/or situation anyway. FA happens long before the draft. You improve your team as much as possible, and in as many positions as possible, through FA first.

Correct, to clarify, the two are arguably the Bears best options at grabbing a top flight WR. People arguing the value of the #8 pick? Im arguing a potential top WR for 4 years on a rookie salary rather than paying a premium for a WR that is not a Julio Jones nor a OBJ. Im going to say build through the draft on this one especially having a decently high draft pick.

I guess my issue is that I don't think Ridley is that good. I think he's good, but not top 10 pick good. I'm fine with the Bears taking him if they think he is, but in my opinion adding Landry means you have more flexibility with the pick if one of the elite guys fall to the Bears at 8.

This is what really gets me, what are we going to do with the money?

Sign more mediocre starters?

We have missed 4 times for every Hicks or Trevathan.

The salary cap has been going up every year. 3 years down the road, we will probably be happy the Bears signed Landry at the deal he was signed at (whether he does well or not). To me that is worth throwing money at Landry. I would rather do that that than just give it away to players like Glennon and Wheaton.

just for curiosity sake, have you ever added up all of the cuts and then what it would take to sign every semi important Bears FA plus extending Goldman/Amos/Callahan and then subtract about 6mil for the rookie pool and another 10mil?

It matters when youre building to stay competitive. Unless you just want to go to the playoffs once a decade.

I have the detailed math on my work computer.

‪Based on the last 4 years of catch % and yards per catch this would be the yards produced by each player per 100 targets‬

‪Alshon Jeffery: 790‬
‪Davante Adams 688‬
‪Jarvis Landry: 713‬

‪Jeffery (13/season) Adams (14/season)‬

‪I not sure Landry at 14/season is “overpaid”‬

You don’t build playoff teams with a bunch of B list free agents.

If Landry keeps you from signing another Marcus Wheaton, who cares.
