Ive heard mixed reports that he had a hamstring injury and then was being punished for dropped balls against Detroit (I only counted two..one he got hit really hard)

Either way...I think Devin is one of our best WRs..I think him are Bennett are the best with Knox and Hester being speed guys. But thats me. Martz system needs speed and Knox and Hester work best for that.

Either way, I hope Devin can get back into the rotation. He's one of Cutler's favorite guys so I'm hoping that the hamstring injury is what kept DA basically out last week and he'll work his way back in.

I heard his hamstring was bothering him and that Martz decided to keep Bennett, Knox, and Hester as the rotation because DA could not run all his routes with the hammy.

Also did you title this thread because we brought up David Fincher in the chatbox?

My guess is that the reason for DA's absence Sunday was a number of things.
1) his hamstring was bothering him a little and the coaches feel he is too valuable to the team to risk a more serious injury to it.
2) Bennet is finally healthy again and they wanted to get him more plays to see what he can do. They also felt that Bennet provided a better match-up against the Cowboys defense.
3) He was, not really being "punished" for the drops, but the coaches are using Bennet's return, and his tender Hammie as an excuse to sit DA out, in order to "motivate" him to do a better job of hanging on to the ball, and fire him up about getting back on the field.

I think it was the combination of all these factors coming together at the same time that kept him out. (I could be completely wrong, of course.)

I don't see this as a long-term situation and I'm pretty sure we'll see plenty of DA in the coming weeks in spots were the staff feels he can help the team.

At least, I hope so. Aromashodu is too valuable to ride the bench for any extended length of time. Look at it this way. The bears are 3-0 in games were he's been an active part of the offense (although 2 of those games were against the Lions!). Coincidence?

I like the way the news media is making a big deal out nothing. Lovie said before the game that DA would only be used on returns and only if need. They wanted to be able to rest if if they could because he was so bruised and battered after Lions game. This was said before the game so there is no big deal.

He was a starter in 3 receiver sets, so yes he was.

And Earl Bennett is a starter in 4 WR sets....

DA wasnt technically a starter but in a Martz system, the 3rd WR will get just as many looks.

Didn't they already say it was a combo of:

a) drops
b) unwillingness to go over the middle or hold onto balls over the middle

I will never forget that drop on the opening drive for the easy TD.

I dont know if he's unwilling to go over the middle but i dont blame him for those drops over the middle. He was blanketed by defenders on a couple and took some tough hits. But theres no excuse for the dropped TD pass. It was a beautiful pass by Jay.

Also i think he has some bruising going on too so maybe injury was apart of it.

Wide receiver Devin Aromashodu was targeted 10 times in the season opener and then played one snap in Week 2.

What's up with that?

"I don't know that we need to justify any of those things to anybody other than I would just say this and then we'll let this thing go," offensive coordinator Mike Martz said.

"I don't know why there's any issue with it. Devin's a bit of a specialist in that he does not play the slot, which we asked him to do in the opener. He's not comfortable in there; he's not familiar with it.

"Our other two receivers, all four of our other receivers, are special-teams players, (and) both backups do play the slot and the outside.

"Devin just plays the outside, so his opportunities to play are reduced dramatically because of his limited knowledge of what we do at that position. Does that make sense? He's not a slot or a nickel guy. He's outside."

Translation: Aromashodu doesn't like going over the middle, where he took a beating in the opener. He also dropped at least 3 passes.

At first, coach Lovie Smith was a little vague about the disappearing act when asked about Aromashodu.

"He was healthy," Smith said. "Early in the week he wasn't as healthy as he needed to be. Nothing against Devin. We'll need everyone at times, but you can't dress all 53 guys. Only so many guys (45) can dress.

"We feel good about the receivers we had out there. The other day Earl Bennett gave us some good play."

Bennett, who missed the preseason and the regular-season opener with a hamstring injury, caught 5 passes at Dallas for 29 yards, a 5.8-yard average.

Aromashodu averaged 14.2 yards on his 5 catches in the opener, but Bennett has no qualms about catching over the middle.

"We see who practices well every week, and who we think gives us the best chance to win," Smith said. "That's the combination we decided to go with last week."

The drops clearly played a role in the decision.

"We evaluate a lot of different things," Smith said. "We feel like that group we went with gave us the best chance. There's not a whole lot more I can say about it.

"We're going to look at the guys this week, and the guys we feel like give us the best chance are the ones we're going with."

Aromashodu said he wasn't given an explanation for his lack of activity and said he didn't ask for one, but he thinks the drops were a factor.

"They didn't mention anything to me about it," he said, "but it could have been. I've been in that situation (before). Early last year I didn't play much. So I've just got to stay focused and keep fighting."

In the first 12 games of the 2009 season, Aromashodu caught 2 passes for 16 yards. In the final four games he had 22 receptions for 282 yards and 4 touchdowns.

I read an article that apparently after one of the pass attempts to 'Roma over the middle that he dropped while getting hit he said something to the effect of "I keep on getting smashed by blind side defenders". Which didn't go over well with Cutler or the coaching staff.
