The McCaskeys will not be selling the team in your lifetime.

NFL owners voted Tuesday to lower the minimum percentage of a team that a longstanding owner must control from 5 percent to 1 percent, a nod to skyrocketing franchise valuations and the difficulty that trend places on keeping teams in families. And in particular, teams whose core holdings are the team itself.

“Considering that it’s only for long-standing ownership families, I think that it relates to the need to give them (the Giants and Bears) structures that they’re going to be able to make work if they want to stay in the league,” he said.

Yeah, no. They WILL sell. I get the angle you are taking, but the issue here is that allegedly NONE of the McCaskey kids want to run the Bears. The scuttlebut, which has been consistent for DECADES, is that the children couldn't give two shits about the Bears, and just want it sold off so they can get their hands on the money.

Now, if one of them actually WANTED to run this team? That would be different. But I have not heard any such rumor, and the pressure on the main McCaskeys has been consistent.

The reality is, who gives a fuck if they own them, they just have to get their fucking hands out of the cookie dough.

Stop making key decisions and hire someone that knows football. It’s not that fucking hard.

Hopefully the next generation of McCaskey’s have some common sense.

Just hit on the QB position for once. It does not matter who owns the team or who is hired.

Too many inheritors that won't see enough benefit until they sell. That doesn't mean that George couldn't leverage a loan or partial (majority) ownership to another party to allow him to remain with the team etc. You could also do partial payouts to inheritors so they are doing quite well while still retaining a smaller portion of the team to keep it in the family. Odds are that the kids force a full sale but there are options.

I think they will sell in the next 5-10 years, after Virginia dies and an Arlington Heights stadium deal gets done (in no particular order).

The NFL is not a bad business, the biggest downside to owning a team is the public exposure. If you own a department store and you screw it up, it isn't on the TV and radio everyday with a million pissed off people screaming 24/7.

Bottom line is, if you are a wealthy idiot, be stupid in private, owning an NFL team is no way to fly under the radar.

Our only hope is that the McCaskeys get caught in some kind of child sex slave scandal.
