Ballard the GM? Think youre confused
You were speaking of the Pace hiring no? If it was the Nagy hire my bad. I actually liked the hire as well but was concerned to hear the story about the playoff game. Which came to fruition. He sucks at calling plays.

what about this post made you think it was about pace?

I’d say 85% of CCS liked the Nagy hire and the ppl who didn’t had no reason other then they wanted to be edgy and different. He checked a lot of good boxes. Ppl who say they didn’t like the hire now are just lying more than likely.

And Vic Fangio is one of the DCs in football. The Bears are hiring a head coach, not an offensive coordinator. And if he's really one of the best OCs what happened last season?

McDaniels may be a great offensive mind. He's already proven to be a disastrous head coach. Assuming he'll be better now for...reasons...is ridiculous. He was about as bad as a head coach could be. And then he accepted a job, hired a staff, and decided "nah, fuck it". Leadership!

Two of the best NFL coaches ever..... Bill B and Mike Shanahan had losing records with their first jobs. People do change and learn. Just because he failed in his first job doesn't mean things years later can be different.

And if you don't think he's one of the best OC's then you haven't been paying attention.

Again, the question isn't wether or not he's a good OC. Being a Head Coach and being a offensive coordinator are totally different jobs. And he failed miserably as a head coach. I also can't believe people can trust him ever again after what he did to the Colts. That's as fucked up as it gets.

Belichick was an infinitely better head coach with the Browns. Shanahan, I guess, but he was dealing with a cluster fuck of an organization and Al Davis' meddling. But I could name 50 coaches who failed and didn't turn into great head coaches. Just because two coaches in NFL history followed that path doesn't mean McDaniels will follow suit.

But I guess some Bears fans are intent on proving it can get a lot worse than Matt Nagy.

Eating a box of #2 pencils during the interview must have really impressed the Lions.
My favorite Matt Patricia comment I saw when he was still around: "I don't think we talk enough about the fact that Matt Patricia always has a pencil behind his ear, and all his play sheets are laminated."

If any HC would hire a new assistant and leave immediately, it would be Harbaugh.
But it’s OK for Harbaugh? If Josh McDaniels did that people would lose their shit.

So McDaniels record is a big deal but Fraziers isn’t?

It's not about his record. It's about how he handled himself as head coach. He clashed with his players, coaches and seemingly everyone else. Every report out of his tenure as a head coach said he was just toxic.

And I cannot stress how messed up what he did to the Colts was. That speaks to his character and the kind of person he is. How can anyone trust someone who does something like that?

Is Frazier really going to suddenly become a successful HC at the age of 62? He seems a good guy but really? This Bears job is one hell of a tough one, it’s going to need someone special.

I think you have this illusion that NFL coaches need to be good people or something.
And again…. This was years ago. Players certainly like him now

I do not have that illusion. When he was given control he did everything he could to alienate his players and his coaches and anyone else. And in the end he left the Broncos with a mess. And Tim Tebow.

And what about what he did to the Colts? Again, how can you trust him? The surest predictor of future behavior is past behavior. Just assuming he's changed because he's lived under Belichick's shadow is baseless.

If the Bears end up hiring him I will do my best to root for him but I have zero belief that he will be anything but an epic failure.

If they can lure Harbaugh and he'll bring Fangio for DC then I don't care if they hire a GM at all. let it be a luring chip that Harbaugh can pick personnel within the budget and let Philips be the numbers guy.
