Gus asked for a thread, so here it is.

Illinois over the last week/weekend passed among other things legalized weed and sports gambling minus Illinois collegiate games.

What are your thoughts on it?

For me on weed I think it won't help the state out. It's been shown that those states have an increase in automobile accidents. Also not sure why people that are buying this from "their guy" would stop and pay more to get it at a legalized government controlled store.

As for sports gambling, I don't have an issue with it. The state already allows casino gambling, I don't understand a case against it.

Lots of people don't have "a guy" and would engage in it if they could, legally.

And beyond that, it will simply open up the market to people it can help.... like some with pain issues that can't get a medical card.

It will become a big business and provide tax revenue.

Gambling comes from the Devil... that's the case against it.

Haven't you seen Waterboy?

Yes @brett05 , i have a question concerning my friends table manners. He likes to talk with food in his mouth and it really grosses me out. How would you go about telling him to shut his fucking mouth when he chews his food? I dont want to hurt his feelings but i cant get grossed out anymore. Thanks @brett05

I thought in Illinois you could get it for medicinal purposes from a Dr script for some time now.

I said, "that can't get a medical card", I suppose I should have said "that can't get an RX"

The medical card in Illinois is fairly restrictive.

I find it a little amusing that you are anti a plant that grows naturally from the earth but pro sports betting and all the destruction that can be generated by that.

You are a strange person.

It has also shown to have created a surplus for the states that have legalized it....to the point where it has funded education and have even provided refunds back to the residents of that state. And where is the info you are getting about it being more expensive from a local store vs from "their guy"? Personally, even if it were more expensive, I would pay that premium to not only get it from a legit source but to also legally purchase it to contribute to the state economy. Buying weed from "my guy" means I do not know where they got the weed from or the quality I am buying...I would much rather buy from a regulated shop, than some guy who is probably selling that has had 1 or 2 other middle men before they received it.

Could you imagine a surplus of so much cash in the coffers that tax-payers actually get money back in their pocket?

https://kdvr.com/2018/12/27/how-marijuana-tax-money-is-spent-in-colorado/

In fiscal year 2017-2018, the Department of Revenue says it collected $250,968,890 in marijuana tax revenue. The constitution requires the first $40 million in excise tax money go to school construction. Anything over that from the excise tax goes toward public school funds.

Overall, 47 percent of marijuana tax money went to schools for fiscal year 2017-2018, 41 percent went to other state services, and the remaining 12 percent went to the general fund.

Imagine this on a federal level, I would guess healthcare could easily be funded through these type of revenues.

Don't really care either way about weed, won't affect me.

Love the legalized gambling.
