The top nicknames for current Chicago Bears

Nicknames can be a sign of respect or simply just an easier way to refer to someone. In Chicago Bears history the team has had some noticeable nicknames. Walter Payton was known simply as Sweetness. Gale Sayers was the Kansas Comet. And Mike Singletary was affectionately known as Samurai Mike because of his line in the Super Bowl Shuffle. The Bears organization has been filled with characters and plenty of nicknames.

So what about this current crew? Luckily for the Bears, they have a young team that loves to give others nicknames. With former first-rounders on the roster like Mitch Trubisky and Leonard Floyd there are enough nicknames to go around. Tarik Cohen alone has enough nicknames that he can give others on the roster some of his own. Head coach Matt Nagy has not received any nicknames just yet, only that wide receiver Taylor Gabriel believes Nagy has a lot of "swag" in the way he carries himself.

Just below we take a look at some of the biggest names on Chicago's roster and what their nicknames are. There are likely a lot of nicknames that are not made public and kept close to the vest with some players, so these are only the nicknames we know about.

WR TAYLOR GABRIEL - TURBO TIME

Taylor Gabriel was quick to reference the Christmas movie Jingle All the Way with his "Turbo Man" reference above when he signed with the Bears this offseason. He likely will go by strictly "Turbo" but there is nothing wrong with calling him by the full name. In his four years in the NFL he has caught 132 passes for 1,819 yards with eight touchdowns. His best season came in 2016 when he caught 35 passes for 579 yards with six touchdowns. In the playoffs that year for the Atlanta Falcons he caught nine passes for 171 yards.

LB ROQUAN SMITH - THE MONTEZUMA MISSILE

Roquan Smith may have the most ambitious nickname on the roster with "The Montezuma Missile" moniker. According to Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times, the nickname is something Smith has carried since his early days at Georgia. The nickname stuck after he attended Macon County High School in Montezuma, Georgia. A three-year contributor at Georgia, Smith capped off his senior season with 137 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. Chicago took him with the eighth overall pick in this year's draft and he is expected to start alongside Danny Trevathan at the inside linebacker position.

FS EDDIE JACKSON - BOJACK

Eddie Jackson was called "Bojack" by offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains last season, but looking back through social media it is a nickname he also had at Alabama. As a rookie he started all 16 games for Chicago last season. In those games he recorded 73 tackles, six pass deflections, two interceptions, two defensive touchdowns and one forced fumble. He is expected to once again be a central part of the Bears defense this season.

TARIK COHEN - THE HUMAN JOYSTICK

If there is one player on the Bears roster who has no shortage of nicknames it is Cohen. Below is just a sample of some of his nicknames:

The Human Joystick

Chicken Salad

Big Daddy

Chocolate Badger

"The Human Joystick" has been the most fitting thus far in his Bears career. He showed an ability last season to make plays all over the field and only stands to take off in a big way this season in Nagy's new offense in Chicago. His other nickname, "Chicken Salad", may be the most clever of the bunch given his ability to make chicken salad out of nothing (the old saying rolls off the tongue slightly better).

SS ADRIAN AMOS - SPATULA HANDS

This may not be a nickname that still sticks. A bit of a joke, it took Amos quite some time to snag his first career interception last year against the Baltimore Ravens. Amos began last season as a reserve behind Quintin Demps before getting back onto the field as a starter in Week 4 following an injury to the veteran safety. He went on to start 10 games and finished the year with 69 tackles, three pass deflections, two forced fumbles and one interception. He is expected to be a starter again this season and could shake that moniker from Hicks with a another strong season.

DE AKIEM HICKS - THE DREAM

(Photo: Jonathan Daniel, Getty)
In the case of Akiem Hicks, his may have been given to himself. That is usually a no-no, but who is going to tell him he can't give himself a nickname? He uses the moniker in his Twitter handle and has been referenced by that name in the past. Entering his third year with the Bears, Hicks has established himself as a true leader of the defense. In his first year he recorded 54 tackles with seven sacks. Last year he once again recorded 54 tackles with 8.5 sacks.

If he wants to be called "The Dream" he can be called "The Dream."

QB MITCH TRUBISKY - MR. BISCUIT
The big debate when the Bears drafted Trubisky was whether he was going to go by Mitch or Mitchell. At the time he said his mother preferred Mitchell, but it is not uncommon to hear both referenced when talking about him. He was given the nickname "Mr. Biscuit" in college and that has seemingly stuck. With that said, he does have a bevy of other nicknames. Leonard Floyd and Pernell McPhee dubbed him the "Pretty Boy Assassin" last year and that is another one that could seemingly stick.

THE OFFENSIVE LINE - CHICKEN DINNER

This nickname has some interesting twists to it and is a bit of a thinker. A Twitter user asked if Akiem Hicks calls the offensive line "Chicken Dinner" because the group if a five-piece meal that comes with a biscuit (Trubisky) and the veteran defender confirmed it.

Honestly, that's rather clever on Hicks' part. With Trubisky's nickname being "Mr. Biscuit" the Bears defensive end should get a lot of credit for his creativity with this one.

someone was feeling their deadline today

This took 1 minute with a simple gun association for all.
WR TAYLOR GABRIEL Bullett
LB ROQUAN SMITH Missle
FS EDDIE JACKSON Sniper
RB TARIK COHEN Scatter Gun
SS ADRIAN AMOS Bulletproof
QB MITCH TRUBISKY Deadeye
QB Mike Glennon Misfire
None of these will or should stick but it shows how cringe worthy that was for the amount of effort put in.

HoJo - Howard

All the food references making me hungry
Biscuit - Mitch
Chipotle - Shaheen
Chicken Salad - Cohen
Chicken Dinner - oline

Seriously though, watching my six year old do a touchdown dance and yell 'Chicken Salad!' last season was pretty damn funny.
