In a 2011 ESPN documentary, it was reported that Carmazzi was then living in northern California as a farmer, yoga practitioner and an owner of five goats who did not own a television

Pretty awesome actually.

The only real takeaway here is:

1: Good QBs are rare.
2: if your idiot GM only drafts one QB in 6 years then your team probably won’t have a good QB

Drafting one is fine. Drafting a backup over two all pros is not.

Some time back, on a draft day (2020?), while listening to the Barroom Sports program on Sirius FM, the wags at that station floated the idea of getting John Mariucci's phone number and calling him to wish him a "Happy Giovanni Carmazzi Day"!! The 20th anniversary date of the drafting of Tom Brady (a SFarea resident and lifelong fan!) by New England. Which I thought was hilarious beyond words! GC was of course the QB picked by Mariucci higher up in the draft that year.

They never did make that call but I think I'll call them and remind them to do so this year. LOL!!!

What a clustershit, might as well pick late vs early. Of course the Bears screw the pooch when there are two bonafide stars. One of those stars may be a predator though, so there is that silver lining.

There is a whole lot of crap qbs in that list.

Agreed.

I love how some are taking this to use as a argument weapon against drafting franchise quarterback in the first round, when overall in any round, 95% of this list is crap no matter where they were drafted.

However if you look at the number of quarterbacks who are at least moderately successful, significantly more came out of the first round than any other round, in those crafted later are more exceptions to that rule.

Damn what a crapshoot. This is why you gotta keep taking shots at getting a QB there's no sure things.

It's about as deep as they get when 8 guys may go through day 2 but obviously, that guarantees nothing. That's hasn't happened in the last 20 years, maybe ever.

1983 would be the closest if memory serves

I remember. thanks.

Nah, it didn't really exist. Only hype that was there was due to those draft classes being insanely weak at QB. The hype around legit prospects like Luck/Bradford/Stafford etc. was far higher than what was being pushed for Russell, Leinart, & Manziel. Young had some decent hype because of how good he was in the Championship. There's other QBs that could've proved your point (Bradford and Alex Smith being two), but those weren't the ones. The hype around them was lukewarm at best.

Well observed.

I will be disappointed if Bears don’t get a QB in this draft.
