I think most of Mack's injury issues have been foot and ankle related, so I'd assume those will be taken care of with the foot surgery and recovery.

It does seem that has gone on a couple years. I assume they opted for surgery to finally address it so he can play fully healthy going forward

I'm not going to post every article, thread or tweet about the subject. Plenty thought he was an up and coming player and you know it.
Up and coming player, yes, but that's not quite how you made it out to be with your first post about it. He was absolutely an up and coming player and i don't think that's all the sudden not the case now just because he had a so so season so far. He's still played well for a backup DT/DE who's gotten limited snaps this year.

That's fine if you don't think he's an up and coming player or didn't think it before this season started but he was without a doubt playing like one.

Gipson is not even a starting caliber edge rusher, let alone one of the better ones in the league.

Gipson keeps showing progress. Next season will be interesting to see if he takes another step. From Pompei writing for The Athletic:

“• You can’t put too much stock in how players performed against the Giants, but Trevis Gipson should definitely factor into the team’s offseason plan at defensive end. Some might think he has played well enough to make Quinn or Khalil Mackexpendable, given the Bears’ cap situation, the contracts of Quinn and Mack and their potential trade value.”

He should be a rotational DE next season. Nothing more.

Let us not forget how awesome Mark Anderson was for us as a rotational rusher. Rush specialist is a valuable role and we need that kind of value.

How quickly you people forget. Yes, a ton. There were vids of him in training camp talking about getting paid this year. He was supposed to be a big ascending player this year. One of Pace's late round "hits".

From a Bears article:

"Looking to build on a breakout year, Bears defensive lineman Bilal Nichols has set lofty goals for the 2021 season.
"All-Pro and winning the Super Bowl," Nichols said. "
I agree with you, there were tons of hype comments about this was going to be breakout year for Nichols.

This is a no brainer. You rotate Mack, Quinn and Gipson to hopefully keep them all fresh. Move Mack inside at 3T on obvious passing downs so that Quinn, Mack and Gipson all on the field at same time. Quinn stays on the edge and you can run a combination of stunts and straight up rushes with Mack and Quinn as Mack loves to stunt. There is enough snaps there for them to all play about 70-75% of snaps.
