Anyone else into gardening besides growing pot? Right now I am doing jalapenos, russets, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries. But I think my russetts are going to fail due to the hot summers here. I admit I spend way to much time watching youtube gardners

Live in a condo so only potted plants. We do peppers, tomatoes (with limited success), and a bunch of herbs. We had bigger gardens at our old house(s). Growing up my grandparents had a huge garden.

I just put in a raised bed a couple weeks ago, and planted tomatoes, bell pepper, jalapeno, habanero and some herbs - cilantro, dill, basil.

Hopefully all will go well. I miss being able to grab tomatoes off the vine in quantity.

I did not plant a lot. 4 tomato plants, one that is supposed to yield earlier than the rest, and one of each of the others. Tried herbs in a planter box a coule years ago,but traveling for work kept me from watering often enough and hot weather fried them.

Keep an eye on the cilantro, when I grew it it spread like crazy. It can kind of take over. But you'll never run out of it.

I am doing 4 varieties of Jalapenos but the watering is driving me nuts. Some of my plants are a luscious dark green and then I have a bunch that have light green leaves and appear wilted. They all get the same amount of water. You tube says the light green is due to overwatering. I am at a loss.

I also decided to do russet potatoes but all of them appear to be shriveling up now that the temp is going up. I guess I need to grow them during the winter with my lettuce, spinach, and kale.

Note: a really cold night here is 28 degrees and a really hot day is 114. Last year I tried lettuce in the summer and had to look up what the fuck happened to them. That's when I learned what bolting is.

Any ideas on my pepper situation would be appreciated. I have 27 Jalapeno plants and want to can this year.

I've always wanted to try my hand at it, but I've got a lot of squirrels in my yard. Two huge oak trees, it's basically a paradise for them. I think I would need to build enclosures around everything, and that sounds like a pain in the ass.

I think if you used deer and rabbit repellent it should work on squirrels. I have to use it on my apple trees even though my dog keeps the yard pretty much clear.

All my pepper are grown from seed.
A lot of your jalapenos look like they are turning yellow from the bottom up, that is very typical sign of nitrogen deficiency. I would fertilize them.

Also, something that happens with pepper plants is they will very often shed their large fan leaves as they are hardening, if you are seeing small new leaf growth as the large fan leaves die off that is fairly common.

Still, I think you have some nitrogen deficiency there.

Yes.

I am not one of those you tube people that eats whole fresh peppers, but I do eat a lot of hot foods and make my own sauces and rubs etc.

I am actually working on making some ultra hot sauces that do not slaughter everyone as most people enjoy something more mild. Some of the hot peppers have great flavor, however most people cannot tolerate the heat to enjoy the flavor.

Also, the right amount of hot sauce can send you on a head space journey.

Took this in a hot sauce store.

Unfortunately I can’t get it rotated back upright.

So I think you might be correct......so I added some coffee grounds to the soil and went and got some good ole fashioned miracle grow tomato food and watered everything. We will see what happens.

I think you should be good from there.
