You think starting quality LT can be easily found in the mid to late first round or second? You might be able to get a project but to land an instant starter is very rare.

This is a premium position right there with DE, QB, and CB.

I still go back to the draft in Chicago. Tunsil on the board crowd thinks Bears are taking him, nfl red zone guy thinks Bears are taking him. Instead we take an old, skinny bust in Floyd.

Tunsil as you know was later traded for 2 1st round picks and is a pretty good LT. Floyd was dumped for nothing.

This is pretty bad right? But it barely makes the radar of Ryan Pace because he has so many epic failures. The guy needs to be fired.

Remy this is a safe space. It’s okay to admit Leno is garbage. We will still love you my friend.

Well he would have went too 3 without the gas mask. At 9 that’s value that a good team takes advantage of. Especially with the trade up. Forgot that part lost a 4th to get Floyd as well. Patented Pace move.

Bears need at least 1 OT in the higher rounds, as well as OG that’s not a 7th round 1 in a million shot. The depth is so sparse on the OL, and they have have gone years without getting a developmental project at tackle that has any real potential to pan out.

Ya, and I've been watching tapes of this olympic speed RB Chuba Hubbard....6'1 207lb
Get the 2 OLmen and him in the first 3 picks and now theres potential for a good running game
Hubbard and etienne are really good.

Trade for a GOOD veteran guard now, with multiple years on his contract. Plug him in at LG the rest of the way. In the offseason, figure out where to play that vet, Whitehair and Daniels. Even if it means trying Daniels at C again (Whitehair has been bad this year).

Draft a tackle in the first 2 rounds. Use the rest of this season to determine which of Leno or Massie to cut (creating too many holes to cut both), but bring in a cheap swing tackle (preferably someone better than Spriggs) that can start if Leno/Massie struggles again to start 2021.

Mack was ragdolling a first round OT pick who is thought to be elite.

Umm, Mack “rag dolled” that rookie once. Most of the time Mack lined up against Wirfs the Iowa took was just fine. Mack had more pressures when lined up v the LT.
And to be fair, not every OLB is like Mack!

1. Not easily. But nothing is easy in the NFL draft.
2. The point isn't to get the best OT in the world. Maybe you get a project. But that project allowing pressure in the QB's face on a 3-step drop is a lot different from a guy in his 7th year allowing the same with a 9Mil salary.

Like I said about the QB position. Not having a top 3 pick isn't an excuse not to find a QB. Picking a tackle in the late first or 2nd round isn't an excuse not to find one. Any position you draft in the top 64 you expect them to be productive. TE is one of the hardest positions to find good players, and everyone still is pissed about the Shaheen pick because he was picked in the 2nd round where good players should be picked. If the LT you draft in the late 1st or 2nd isn't a stud right away, that shouldn't prevent you from making the move. Players develop. Plus, the OL is a 5-man unit. If Leno was the only bad OL on the team, the line would be excellent. If a developing rookie is the worst OL on your team....you're in pretty good shape. The goal for the immediate future should be to increase the OL talent and minimize the number of weak positions in the group. Drafting a guy early should help that if you draft well.
