After being designated for assignment with his third organization this year. Casper Wells, yet again, finds himself on the move, this time to our own Chicago White Sox. Wells was designated for assignment by the Oakland A’s after slugging Cuban outfielder, Yoenis Cespedes, was activated from the disabled list. Considering the A’s had their slugger back, they no longer had use for Wells and dealt him to the South Siders for cash considerations. I’m not sure why no one wants this guy, but considering the White Sox have been struggling this year, any spark to the lineup could help them get back into it. In his largest sample size of 285 at-bats, which was in 2012, Wells hit .228 with a .302 on-base percentage, 10 home runs, and 36 runs batted in. Wells seems like he can be a valuable player if he can latch on and stick somewhere, anywhere, but until then he is going to need to try and stay positive and keep thinking that every stop could be the team he has a career with. Hopefully, Wells will break out in Chicago, considering our own Cuban slugger is now injured, but with the outfield pretty crowded with youngsters like Jordan Danks and Jared Mitchell waiting in the wings, Wells may have a limited time to showcase his skills to impress the White Sox front office.
Discuss.

We do not have the eq. of Don Cooper as a hitting coach that can reclaim guys like this. He's just a minor league filler.

Reclaim? He has played three games in the majors in 2013, he did fairly well in 2012 with Seattle. I don't think he is a 'reclamation' project, but if you found minor league stats from this year that prove otherwise I could be swayed, plus he is only 28 years old

He's 28, career minor leaguer former prospect. That is the definition of reclamation is it not?

In some cases, yes, however his career on-base percentage is better than a lot of the guys we have the roster now like De Aza, Dunn, Viciedo, Keppinger, and Wise. It can't hurt to try and "reclaim" him. Though I still think he hits well enough to be considered a success given his limited playing time

The problem is we don't have a Don Cooper like coach to reclaim him. I'd rather let our guys try and hit their way out.

well since you are judging a hitting coach who is in charge of hitting, he isnt doing a good job of it with all that talent on that team. BA is lame to be used with a players slash line and talent, but it means something when discussing.,,well a hitting coach. 2 different things sir

I am pretty sure Wells is out of options. He would have to be DFA'd to be sent to the minors which is why he has been in roster limbo for so long this year.
