Would this stat line convince you Fields is the guy?

Fields finished last year with 2,242 passing yards, 17 passing TDs and 12 INTs.

He had a 60% completion percentage, and an 85 passer rating.

Let’s say he made a big jump passing and went something like:
3,200+ passing yards
24 passing TDs
12 INTs
67% completion percentage
95+ passer rating

I realize that’s not the ceiling we all hope for, but that would be quite the jump. If he did that this year, would it convince you he’s the guy?

For me, with those numbers I gotta see what our win/loss is. I gotta see what he looks like and what his decisions are in the 4th quarter. If he's leading the team to victory with those numbers, sign me up. If the Bears are 6-11 or 7-10 I wouldn't be convinced.

I can put up with less than stellar numbers as long as the Bears are winning b/c they have a WINNER at QB.

It’s like the definition of porn…. We will know it when we see it.

Imagine being satisfied with a QB who averaged 188 yards passing per game.

That's the standard Bears fans have for their QB 188 yards per game is acceptable in his third year with the team.
It all comes down to W/L. If they are winning games and have a winning record who cares how many yards Fields is throwing per game. the W’s are all that matters.

But your basically saying wins don’t matter. The only thing that matters is how many yards Fields throws for.

This isn't fantasy football. Having huge passing numbers is not indicative of winning football.

Teams with crappy defenses will usually put up higher passing numbers since they are often playing from behind. They have to pass more, and abandon the run. If the team is behind by a lot, they will face softer defenses that will give them short plays to run out the clock.

I'd rather have a winning record while only passing 200 yards a game than passing 400 yards a game with a losing record.

When Fields plays well enough to be considered "the guy", everyone will know it and we won't have to worry about any silly stat line to convince ourselves.

Those aren't horrible numbers- not great but not horrible. But I suspect Fields is about to do much more than that. Just watch... Fields is fitna' light it up. He is fiercely competitive. He would never admit this to anyone, but I believe he has expectations of himself that are inconceivable to the rest of us. He wants to be the best. Not just the Bears best, but the best. As in "I'm Him" best.

But as we all know, it's not enough to just have expectations. You've got to appreciate and treat your teammates with respect, which he does. You've got to care about winning, which he does. But most importantly, you've got to put in the work. And we damned sure know he does that.
The Bears have speed at every skill position on offense. By the middle of the season, there will be guys scoring that some forgot about because teams will be doubling #2.

Jay Cutler banked 100 million padding stats in the 4th quarter when defenses were in prevent protecting a 3 touchdown lead.

In the end game, Justin needs to drive the team on last possession and win a game for once . . . or how bout coming out top in a few shootout games per season. When is last time bears won a high scoring matchup? /crickets

The defense also needs to stop blowing leads.

Well QBs do need to drive their teams to win, for sure. But in addition to the QB not making mistakes, people need to catch the ball, not fumble, not muff returns, and not give up drive-killing sacks either, all of which happened last year. But no excuses- this year, both Fields and the Bears will be better. And if your defense can't get pressure on the QB (which will likely be the same as last year because they have not as of yet upgraded the pass-rush), you are bound to be in some shootouts. The QB has to perform in those situations too.
