If this was Anthony Rizzo, a team leader, stalwart, career major leaguer with a chip to his name....ok...there might be a point that he is rubbing it in.
What the fuck is anyones point when the guy road the bus for 8 years?!!!! Get the fuck out. Thats the most pertinent point, is the guy road the goddamn bus for 8 years and you want him to hold back? He's 28 in his first major league year, a placeholder without a true position only playing because of injury...and your going to ask him to hold back?
Every at bat is a dream for him. Every at bat a fight to prove it isn't a fluke and increase his trade value in case he can't stick with the sox. The guy doesn't have a contract, the guy never had one. Robert and Jiminez lurk in the wings.
So what the fuck are we talking about here? There is a case to hold back for some players maybe...an unwritten rule...but in 2021 that shit absolutely does not apply to Yermin Mercedes or any player out to prove themselves without security.
