AHL Changes Rules To Stop Goalies From Flipping Their Own Nets

On Sunday, Bridgeport Sound Tigers goalie David Leggio escaped a 2-on-0 breakaway by toppling his own net, happily opting to face (and stopping) a penalty shot. Terrified that the move would inspire other netminders, the AHL has enacted a rule change.

According to Darren Dreger, from here on out any AHL goalie that intentionally dislodges his net will be hit with a game misconduct, and his replacement will still face a penalty shot taken by the opposing team's choice of players. That should settle matters nicely.

I thought the original video was pretty funny. Especially in the comments on deadspin where someone posted a video of that goalie doing about 3 minutes worth of a Penishead impression that was pretty spot on.
