http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...-brawl-game-chicago-bears-san-francisco-49ers
Set the scene:
It's 3rd and 5 with five-and-a-half minutes left in the Fourth Quarter. Bears are leading the 49ers 14-9.
Trubisky takes the snap in shotgun and looks right, pump-faking once, then taking off to the left because DL Cassius Marsh has made it around the outside of RT Bobby Massie.
Break it down:
09) Trubisky reaches the First Down marker, then slides feet-first. While doing this, you can see safety Marcell Harris is at the 39-yard-line and has already committed to the hit on Trubisky, lowering his body and bending his knees.
10) Harris hits Trubisky about two yards beyond where Trubisky initiated his slide, directly in front of Taylor Gabriel and Josh Bellamy. Trey Burton is a few yards to the inside of the field. Anthony Miller is standing at the 33-yard-line on the sideline, about 7 yards away. Kyle Long is in a Monsters of the Midway hoodie a couple of yards onto the sideline near the 45-yard-line.
11) 1 second post-hit, there's already much to discuss.
The referee standing on the sideline directly at the first down marker at the 36-yard-line already has his hand on his flag, pulling it feverishly out of his pants.
Taylor Gabriel is pointing at Trubisky.
Kyle long has one foot up, already on his way to the scene to play his best Patrick Swayze in Roadhouse.
49ers linebacker Fred Warner (48) has already decided, "Fuck this shit," and has turned his back and started to walk away.
Trey Burton has started running in toward the scene.
Harris has already started to get his ass up, probably cognizant that hanging out on the ground near the friends of a guy you just blindsided probably isn't the best idea.
Now let's switch to a better angle exactly one second later.
51)
Holy shit, Anthony Miller closed that seven yards quick. That might be the fastest he's moved in weeks. He's already going with the shoulder-shove on Harris. Classic.
Miller doesn't really make another appearance, stands at the front of the pack before getting pulled back by Trubisky.
Gabriel has pulled out the front-flex and is going for a facemask-to-facemask meeting with Harris.
Josh Bellamy is still pointing at Harris.
Warner (48) has decided to turn back toward the scene, but it's clear he still doesn't want any part of this.
Kyle Long is still on the way, taking a bit for him to get his momentum going.
52)
Oh hell, here we go.
A flag is already flying in.
The first shove is see is a double-shove from Harris to Gabriel with the left arm and Trubisky with the right arm.
Bellamy has both his hands on the back of Harris, but it doesn't look like he's truly gotten physical yet.
Kyle Long is still coming, slowly but surely, not unlike sap falling down a Maple syrup tap.
Bradley Sowell has appeared, his left arm on Kyle Long as he tries to get around the lumbering guard and in on the action.
49ers' DeForest Buckner, has turned away from the scene, like Warner, not really wanting in on this.
49ers' DB Tarvarius Moore (33) is the only 49er in the immediate vicinity and the only 49ers squared up looking straight at the scene. He has his arms partially out, appearing to perhaps want to play peacemaker.
Nagy can be seen in the background, just visoring it up.
Linebacker Joel Iyiegbuniwe has his left arm up, standing behind Benny Cunningham, left as a mere spectator to the theater that is an NFL scrum.
53)
That escalated quickly.
A pushback by Trubisky to Harris has brought Harris' momentum back toward the Bears' bench.
Harris has his hands up, trying to plead ignorance. ("What? What? Me? Nah, dog)
Moore has realized this is a bad situation for his teammate and has closed the distance and is putting his arms out in appeal. ("C'mon, guys, can't we be friiieenndddss??")
Kyle Long has used the more spry Bradley Sowell's forward momentum to increase his own speed toward the scene and is now almost to Moore.
Chase Daniel, true to his pocket form, remains a statue.
Eric Kush, sensing a chance to partake in a rare team drill, is flying past Daniel.
Matt Nagy still has two hands on his playsheet while watching from behind.
54-:57)
Oh nice, a second shove on Harris, this time from Bellamy. Bellamy gets another shove and a face push in on Harris in the span of the next two seconds.
Moore still has his arms out.
Kush has reached the pile, one hand on Sowell and one hand to the right of Kyle Long.
Chase Daniel has started to walk slowly toward the scene, then stops just behind the field judge, who has burst onto the scene from the bottom of the screen, hatless.
A Charles Leno sighting! He chases down Solomon Thomas (94) from behind, pulling Thomas out of the crowd before he can get involved. Good protection, Leno!
Marsh has now decided he actually *does* want to get partially involved. Half walking, half running (think crossing a sidewalk) while putting his arms out to the scrum.
58-1:01)
Another shove on Harris, this time an aggressive one-hander from Benny Cunningham. Have to hand it to Harris. He let at least four Bears get good shoves on him (Miller, Trubisky, Bellamy, Cunningham), yet makes his way away from the scrum, escorted by Moore. Who would've thought the guy who actually hit Trubisky would be the 49er with the smartest resulting actions (to get up quickly, take his lumps without retaliating, and walk away)?.
A few more 49ers have appeared on the scene, among them defensive back DJ Reed (32), all-time-namer Antone Exum (38), and the man you've all been waiting for, Richard Sherman (25).
Sherman immediately makes his way to the front of the pile, pushing past the left side of Buckner as Buckner is slung back by the impressive left-forearm shove by Kyle Long, who has finally osmosis'd into the scrum.
Danny Trevathan left-arm-pushes Reed, who gets mad and right-arm-pushes Trevanthan back, but appears to actually push the hatless field judge. Nice.
(1:02-1:04)
And there's the first open-handed swing-punch by Sherman. Doesn't really seem to land. Maybe grazes the left side of Benny Cunningham's helmet as Bellamy stands nearby.
As the video closes, there are two left handed open-hand jabs forward by Bellamy to Sherman, as Sherman grabs Cunningham's facemask and pushes him back.
(Skip back to :20-:25 for the best resulting view)
Sherman and Bellamy get into a good old-fashioned football slap-each-other's-facemask fight, really rearing back with each "punch".
Sherman gets another good front-punch-shove to Cunningham, while Trey Burton comes in and gets a left-arm shove in on Sherman.
Charles Leno pulls out Sherman, who then walks away like a bitch. (What a bitch)
Buckner and Marsh get more involved now, pushing their way past Sherman and to the front, although when they do this, it just turns into a mini-shove-fest with guys squaring off against each other more and fewer actual physical shoves.
Kyle Long is pushing Buckner and Marsh back, sliding his feet to the right quite nicely and absorbing the blowback without losing ground---Kyle Long back for Week 17 CONFIRMED.
Some other stuff probably happens too. I don't know. I'm done.
