Happy Memorial Day ya animals! Tough week this week. Lets get to the Astros starters because their bullpen has been one of the best in baseball(not saying much).

Add DH and Bryant questionable.

They might squeak a game out.

Yesterday was brutal. Another series loss to the Reds. Time to get back on track.

The Cubs are gaining quite a rep for paying buckets of money to pitchers that don't throw strikes. People can twist stats to make you believe certain things but you can't ever condone giving hitters free rides. I'll never get down on any pitcher who challenges but gets hit....that's the game and sometimes the hitter wins. But walking hitters is completely unacceptable on any level.

Maybe, just maybe, framing matters.

Our walk problem started at just about the time we got rid of one of the best framers in MLB and inserted one of the worst.

I really like Contreras, but this is an issue.

No, he is not primarily responsible for the walks. The pitchers are. But it is clearly a factor.

Not a great outing by Hamels. Ouch.

I just looked at our lineup.
Joe chose to have Descalso play infield over Baez.

I guess it's a semi-rest thing. But good heavens!!

With Bryant's injury, we are playing an AL team, and getting the "benefit" of a DH gets us Descalso in the lineup. Bad enough if that is the extra bat, but we also get to watch him try to play D.

How about hitting a few 300 foot fly balls to left. They're home runs here.

And not a good day for Cubs hitters outside of Rizzo and Russel vs Cole.

The league is different now. Very few pitchers “challenge” hitters anymore. They throw 3-0 breaking balls constantly now. It’s all across the league

I wouldn't doubt that to be the case but that doesn't make it any more acceptable.

I hear ya but look at the bullpens across the league. Hitters have gotten used to velocity so now pitchers don’t challenge. They nibble. It’s weird. It’s almost rare for me to see a fastball in a hitters count. They rather walk them then allow a homer which leads to bigger innings. Even the top teams have had major issues with bullpen this year. Maybe it will adjust itself but it’s oretty wild.

Schwarber crushed that. So of course, it's caught. Saved at least a run.
