Wonder where he would have ranked on BA Top 20 international prospects had he been eligible to sign when the signing season opened. Only 1 player on that list remains unsigned on that list BTW.

Hard to say, jtng. Ben Badler was asked that directly and he never responded. He did say that he has a chance to move quickly given his age, and that once his paperwork is cleared Peoria wouldn't be out of the question this year. Of course he has been suspended twice for not having the correct paperwork, so we will wait and see, but this is definitely a high upside arm.

Apparently the Yankees though highly of him... granting him a $1M+ contract last year.... Now the Cubs get him for $17K.

Sounds a bit like Aroldis Chapman -- though those guys are one in a blue million...and even AC has holes in his game...that being said, he'll be an interesting follow up the minor league ranks.

His fastball isn't in Chapman's league and he is righty. So definitely not in the same league as Chapman in terms of value, but it is another high upside arm from the scouting reports and the bonus they gave to get him (over half of their cap for international signings this year).

If he ever sees the MLB, which I doubt he will, he's probably a reliever.

Third time might be the charm. He obviously has talent or he wouldn't be sought after by some of the smartest men in the business. If he clears all his shady shinanagins I think he will be up

Hoyer said plus fastball and plus slider. If he can develop another pitch, the Yankees thought he had good potential for a curve last year, then he might be a real good starter. Like a prospects you never know until he works his way through the system, but in a system starved for pitching Paniagua is a real nice add.
