That seems like a terrible idea.

Phoenix Coyotes could sure use it. Most NHL teams aren't profitable from what I heard a few year's back in quotes from Nashville's owner.

I don't like this idea. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. I like that the players are understanding of the problem and are willing to compromise (probably at the expense of an ownership compromise somewhere else).

The players were ass raped sideways with an open umbrella last time around. They want respect. So, at what price...and at what measurement? No way the owners break before the season is to begin on time.

I'm starting to get a little nervous, but after reading through the comments I am a little more at ease. I surely hope that the league is not dumb enough to miss any games this year, and all of the denials right now are just both sides going for it all. I hope that 2 weeks from now we will see the two sides coming together on what they both thought would happen. I wish they both could admit where they are willing to accept and just get there.

I did vote that they will miss time, because for someone to finally cave they have to start missing the money.

I really hope they get this thing settled. The NHL can not afford to suffer another work stoppage. They are already on the bottom of the popularity list, as far as the 4 major pro sports are concerned. i think they will eventually get a deal done and they will start the season a little late, like the NBA year.

Given what's happened in the past, its almost unthinkable that something like this could happen. You have a league that's financially teetering on the brink as the bounty with a group of over paid, greedy players on one side and a group of team owners that can't control their own spending on the other. In the middle, you have quite possibly the worst commishioner in the history of sports.

I take it back.

It's not only possible....its probable.

I just realized, that if one of these lower-tier major-leagues ever wanted to strike their owners, this would be a fairly strategic moment.

We're lucky here that we have two OHL clubs and two universities within 45 minutes so I'll still have hockey this year, just not professional. Maybe it will be a good thing.
